About this listen

A desperate family confronts the mysteries that lie between life and death in this soul-gripping novel of supernatural suspense by Amazon Charts and New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice.

Claire Huntley and her brother, Poe, were on a midnight hike in Montana when the woods went wild. A blinding, devouring light and a rumbling pulse that blasted them off their feet left both kids with little memory of what happened. Their father insisted it was a violent extraterrestrial abduction; his wild obsession would tear their family apart in the wake of the trauma.

Fourteen years later, Claire, who’s battled anxiety attacks since that fateful hike, wants to heal her relationship with her brother, which has been damaged by his years of addiction. But only hours before their reunion, Poe’s crowded passenger plane plunges into the Colorado mountains. No one survives the fiery crash. In the midst of her grief, Claire accepts her estranged father’s request to join him in Montana, where he continues to investigate the paranormal force he believes altered his children down to their bones.

As they reunite, Claire’s anxiety attacks take on a new dimension. Is she experiencing hallucinations or visions? Is her brother’s presence in them a symptom of grief, or is she receiving messages from beyond life? The answers Claire and her father seek will take them on a breakneck journey deep into the Montana wilderness and the shadows of history, where they will unearth a secret force with terrifying implications for their family—and the world.

2/3 through good, last 1/3 silly

I enjoyed the first 2/3 but as often happens, the final 1/3 was just silly. Since I don't want to spoil the "surprise ", I can't tell you exactly why it's silly. I've read most of Mr Rice's and generally like his breezy, page-turner style. This was no exception. I finished it and laughed at the almost literal cliffhanger ending that portends a blue- light series, to steal a leitmotiv from the book. The v narrator did an excellent job with the material which in the mouth of a more "vivacious" narrator would have been way way over the top. it's a fine book to listen to as you walk, jog, or sit in a big red recliner. and yes, I will most likely read the next installment.

Interesting and entertaining

Didn’t dislike anything about this book. I recommend it to all. Different take on sci fi and it was as I wrote on the title.

Stupid concept and story dragged on and on. Couldn’t finish. Story just kept meandering and flashing back

the power of death

Decimate by Christopher Rice

A remarkable what if story, the idea that research can find the power in the transition from life and death. Very dark, with a lot of complications. The audio book is wonderful.

A most unique story

This was well written. It also had nuance. It was sad what shaped the primary threat but still, a maniac is a maniac. I very much enjoyed this book

Crazy, fun, devastating

I was curious about this book after reading the description and reviews. So glad I downloaded it because it was a wild and entertaining ride. The story was well-crafted and the 'supernatural' stuff was almost overwhelming. The scenes on the "deck" were described so well that I could picture everything in booming, 3D glory.

Great Read

Decimate was a great read by Christopher Rice. Claire and her brother, Poe, were on a midnight hike in Montana when strange things happened in the woods. A blinding and devouring light appears with a rumbling pulse that blasts them off their feet with little memory of what happened. Their own father insisted that there was a violent extraterrestrial abduction, but his obsession ends up tearing their family apart. Claire has battled anxiety attacks sine that hike. Fourteen years later she wants to heal her relationship with her brother that has been damaged by his addiction. Hours before their reunion, his passenger plane plunges into the Colorado mountains. Unfortunately, no one survives the crash. While grieving, Claire accepts her estranged father's request to join him in Montana. He is still investigating the paranormal force he believes altered his children. Claire's anxiety attacks are much different after they reunite. She doesn't know if she is experiencing hallucinations or visions. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
