Publisher's summary

A desperate plan. An unexpected attraction. A love that could save them both.

Clyde has been living rough since he was 14. He’s a troublemaker, a hustler, and a small-time hoodlum; and until a normal life comes around, he’s running with the Rapps.

Clyde’s mother is in prison, and when her situation takes a dangerous turn, Clyde’s new mission isn’t knocking over gas stations for quick cash; it’s focused on a much bigger payout. Luckily for him, he has support from an unexpected source. But that support comes with an unspoken price - his heart.

He’s just like every other guy, but only on the surface. There’s more to Mark than anyone knows.

If anyone’s looking for Mark, they can find him in the arcade or taking a joyride in a stolen car. Mark is a master lockpick with fast hands and a quicker tongue. He’s loyal to the Rapps, but he has a weakness - one he’ll never admit to anyone. Except maybe Clyde.

Will loyalty to the gang override how he really feels, or can Mark find a way to help Clyde get what he wants without betraying the only family that’s ever been there for him?

dark and deep

This was a unique raw, gritty read, that I got pulled into quickly. A band of very down on their luck young men trying to survive the mean streets of Chicago. A tough life with even tougher choices with survival being the end goal.
Mark never had a mom, and Clyde tried to do whatever he could to help his mom in prison. Amidst all the ugliness of life, two young men are able to find love and cling to one another to keep it. I liked that there was something good with all the bad they lived through. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this story and am giving an honest review. The narrator's voice and expressions added to my enjoyment of this story.

bad boys get a HEA - 3.5 stars

The premise to this story is different to what I normally expect from JP Oliver in that it is based around 2 members of a small street gang 'family'. I found the whole thing a little confusing and the ending felt rushed and anti-climactic. The story is a little 'gritty' and there are elements that feel quite realistic, I did enjoy the gang members coming together to support one of their own when it was needed and the epilogue giving us a glimpse into what Mark and Clyde did with their new lives.

John York is a great narrator and he did a good job with what he had to work with, it was easy to tell the characters apart and all the emotions and intonations were there to bring the book to life.

I was given a free copy of this book at my request - is has in no way influenced my review.

Too close to real life

This is the first I’ve read/listened to by this author. It held my attention from the beginning. It’s a story about kids mostly living on the street that make their living stealing. They belong to a group called the Rapp. This is how Mark and Clyde met. Both have different motives to steal beside survival. There are a couple different story lines. The possibility of a relationship between these two is one. They are so different. Another is Clyde feeling responsible for his mother who is in jail. There is a lot of hotness and discovery which made these characters so real. The possibility of being caught stealing adds to the real life possibility. I give this author credit since I read a lot and have not run across this story line before. It made me stop a few times and wonder how many kids are somewhat like these kids trying to just survive. I was surprised how the resolution of getting money for Clyde’s mom end up. I love the way the author ended the story. I would like to see into their future a little further. I also wish this was a series since I’d like to read the other characters stories. Bottom line I will be getting more audio books by this author.

Torn

Overall I enjoyed the story but the ending felt rushed and unfinished to me which left me feeling dissatisfied with the story. York does a great job with the narration and it's a pretty quick and easy listen.

Delinquents

This story is about kids that are homeless and do more than the odd job of stealing to survive but are lucky enough to have been taken in and live in a house with the other Rapps. They all have their own specialty and they all have their own secrets. In this story two of the Rapps fall for each other but one of them is so focused on saving his mum that he may just stuff up big time. I did like that there was a Happy Ever After in this book but what happened to the leader of this little groups of delinquents?
John York also did a great job with the narrating.

AN EYE-OPENING STORY

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review

Young, homeless teens trying to find their way and deal with their sexual desires. This story is one that will help you understand some of the problems of the homeless youths and those in foster care in the world today.

The narration is good.

Finding Love when you least expect it

John York is a great narrator. I enjoyed his performance of the story.

This isn't the typical story that I enjoy reading. I did enjoy the story overall.

I was surprised and touched by the relationship between all these boys. They are together due to the most awful of circumstances but they still manage to retain hope. The way they all look out for one another is really special. The MC's zeal for saving his mother nearly costs him everything but it is the bond he has with these boys that ends up saving him in the end.

A different twist

An interesting type of story. There were some surprises and things did come to a good end.
