About this listen

"A brilliant examination of the shadows lurking in every relationship and what happens when you step into the darkness." - Mindy Mejia, author of Everything You Want Me to Be

When Shea Walker, a sunny, easygoing mom, is found dead in a bathtub with a stomach full of booze and pills, the shocking discovery shatters the complacency of her comfortable suburban community.

Kat Burrows, Shea's longtime friend and former neighbor, is hit hardest. How could a woman she thought she knew so well come to such a sordid end? What could lead happy, well-adjusted, responsible Shea to accidentally overdose on alcohol and narcotics? Or, worse, drive her to suicide?

Compelled to uncover the truth of Shea's final months, Kat delves beneath the orderly surface of her familiar world to discover a web of thwarted desire, shameful secrets, and shocking betrayal that suggests a scarier explanation for what happened to Shea. As her carefully constructed reality begins to crumble, Kat must question every reassuring assumption her life is built upon to solve the mystery...and summon the courage and resourcefulness to survive it.

Psychological fiction

This book was a twist of lies that slowly unfolded, with a story that flipped back and forth through time present and past. The past being told by the victim. I liked this story it was just ironic that the author made Kat allergic to cats.

great story!

Really liked how the author integrated the past and present to tell a great "who did it " story.

Great book, not so great narration

I LOVED the book! It absolutely kept me guessing & trying to figure out what had happened until the very end. It was incredibly hard to stop listening/reading. However, the narrator was rathe monotone & spoke very deliberately to the point where it could be annoying. There were many times she would pause between syllables. I found it to be distracting but the story was so good I continued to listen because I needed to know what was going to happen.

Good enough to keep me coming back for more

until the end. I HAD to know what really happened and that makes it an interesting experience and good story telling in my opinion

Great Story Engaging Read

Would you consider the audio edition of Depth of Lies to be better than the print version?

Only have listened

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

For the most part yes. There were a few different story lines and a couple that weren’t very interesting that you had to get through to get back to the good stuff.

Which scene was your favorite?

A few. Can’t really break it down to just one in any really good book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Ups and Downs of Suburbia

Any additional comments?

Why don’t audibles get recorded with a different voice or narrator for each character?? In this book I liked that they at least had a male and female and I think it is why I enjoyed it more than others I’ve listened to.

Loved it!

I highly recommend this listen. This was a great book--it kept things a mystery without feeling like it was desperate to catch the reader off guard at any cost like so many books these days. The characters are likeable and believable, and I didn't find myself rolling my eyes or saying "That would never happen." I found the resolution of the mystery and the ending very satisfying as well.
The readers were both just OK. For a while I wasn't even sure whether they were the same person or not because they both overenunciate things and have an odd, clipped 'gait' of talking. Since they both did this, I assume it was the fault of whoever directed the performance. It wasn't unpleasant to listen to, but it was odd and occasionally just a tad grating to hear the book read in an expressive robot voice. Though it WAS very amusing to hear one of them continue in the same tone while reading the copyright warning at the end as if still reading a novel.

Worth the listen

I love how I knew which character was speaking by the tone of the narrator voice. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I kept trying to guess who did what till the very end. I had eventually guessed so many people by the end I was like I knew it. Lol.

Dark Emotional Story

This is the theme to this story.....Shea is found dead in a bathtub at the beginning of the story, the rest of the book we find out about the lies and fantasies that all her friends and husband share. Who is really telling the truth and can one friend figure it all out before it is too late. This story has so many twists and turns and will have you guessing right up until the end.

Coleen Marlo and Emily Sutton-Smith were outstanding with the delivery of the story

ok yet long somewhat distracting

the characters are one dimension despite the author's attempt to create fuel.worlds.in which they live in and the lies they all surround themselves in ot was just hard to keep going even though I pushed myself to and finished
