About this listen

Dick, AKA Devil Dog's world changes drastically when the EMP takes out the power grid. The loss of electricity brings out the darker side of human nature across the city. A homeless Marine veteran living in the abandoned tunnels beneath Chicago, he's far better prepared than most people. Good folk have survived, but they are often outnumbered and outgunned. Only the tunnels provide the safety he needs.

Devil Dog becomes the reluctant savior of women and children from the worst of the gangs that now rule topside. Doing the right thing makes him new enemies, driving him ever deeper into the tunnels that keep his charges safe - until he runs across a young woman who might be his daughter.

Inner City Survival

If you could sum up Devil Dog in three words, what would they be?

Deeply flawed hero

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

Kevin always gives a rock solid performance to the extent that I look for books that he's narrated.

Any additional comments?

Devil Dog is a good spin on an EMP survival story. The deeply flawed hero is an addict and a broken person, but is a survivor. While he struggles with flashbacks, delusions and guilt, he manages to save a good number of the weak and helpless. The author does a good job of portraying a man in conflict trying to make sense of a shattered world. There is no shying away from bad situations and real danger and harm to all the characters. This adds a dimension of realism that keeps this from being another ex-military superhero story.
The book ends with a nice resolution to the storyline and a clean setup for a sequel. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

World has gone to pot, enter the Devil Dog!!

A nice book that follows a fallen hero, in a post EMP fallen world. The Devil Dog delivers justice in a world that no longer functions.

Well read by Kevin Pierce, he delivers an entertaining performance and brings the characters to life. He keeps the story moving nicely, hopefully more to come for the Devil Dog.

Kevin Pierce is a fantastic narrator

A little different than other EMP stories, picks up yrs after EMP. it was a nice twist on the same story I've heard over and over. I am waiting fot the sequel. Kevin Pierce makes the story come alive. my favorite narrator!

Book 1...ill buy the rest

I really enjoyed the story. A wounded veteran takes refuge in the storm sewers of Chicago. A great mix of heroism and real life problems.

Fresh Take. Super Narration

Dangerous people with menacing motives (Gang Activity, Human Trafficking, Sex Trade, etc.) lurk "Topside," but subterranean life is no picnic either. Author Boyd Craven III does an outstanding job presenting an authentic, credible, and likable protagonist, Dick-- our flawed former Marine and top-dog protecter of dystopian victims. He's a "If I don't, who will?" kind of guy. Devil Dog: Out of the Park is a gem for lovers of tight writing; action; intrigue; well-developed characters; dystopia-prep themes; and personalities in every age range imaginable. Some of the backstories may seem incomplete, but I suspect more may be forthcoming in future installments. Be aware of some disturbing visuals and confusing (at least to me) timelines.

Narrator Kevin Pierce not only nailed the characters, he delivered the “feel” of tension, love, menace, uncertainty, support and determination without being overly dramatic. Super job!!

Great story and performance

Although this is a post-apocalyptic EMP book, it differs from many others. It doesn't focus on the EMP part, but shows the societal collapse. I love the main character, Dick, who was a marine and struggles with PTSD. It is realistic to me, how he struggles but tries to do the best he can for himself and those he sees as his own. It has all the elements of a SHTF scenario but to me, it centers more around the characters, their interactions, and trials.

I love Kevin Pierce, and think his voice is perfect for the book and making Dick's voice come alive. Great performance. I would definitely recommend.

Action Suspense and the Apocalypse

This audiobook was given to me at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review, thanks Audiobook Boom.

I really enjoyed this story! Alas, it has no zombies, an EMP has brought the world as we know it to a sudden stop. It's how one man copes with his changed world. It well written and narrated and this book could definitely become a series. Bonus? The story gave great survival tips, what more could you ask for?
