About this listen

Bennie Griessel may be losing his battle with alcohol, but he still knows enough to head up the police team tracking "Artemis", a vigilante killer who targets child murderers.

The killer is, in fact, Thobela Mpayipheli, a former freedom fighter robbed of everything by the murder of his son. And when Griessel's daughter is kidnapped, his world and Thobela's converge towards a devastating climax.

Narrator was brilliant

I really enjoyed this book, the explicit nature of the writing caught me a bit off guard but overall it is a good story.

fantastic thriller, read by a master.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I rave about this writer. He is so smart at constructing a plot and making the details speak about socio political issues without any ponderous statements. It all happens through the voices of the characters, often with wonderful humour.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Love Bennie Griesel. More of him please

Any additional comments?

More Deon Meyer please!
Saul Reichlin is wonderful, so accomplished at getting the nuances of accents and characters.

Exciting book

I enjoyed this book very much. The narration was excellent. The only negative remark : Too much swearing, especially the use of God's name is very disturbing.

Absolutely worthwhile

I have listened to MANY audiobooks while painting, but this must be one of the few that I have found captivating. Yes,once or twice one feels like slapping Bennie, the main character, to just get past the low self esteem & pity party, but then it does also give the listener a unique insight into the struggle of an alcoholic. Great suspense & intrigue but still very believable & realistic!

Brilliant !

Outstanding story line and characterisation. The narration is excellent with realistic accents - nothing worse than poor fictitious accents. Raw and real, thoroughly enjoyable. !!

Exceptional Book, but not for the easily offended.

A surprisingly good book. Great imperfect and believable characters. For me the South African location and politics was somewhat exotic and a welcome change from your typical locations. Saul Reichlin's narration goes beyond excellent with believable accents for the characters. Saul is by far my favourite Narrator and in my opinion is king of his craft.

Loved the story and the structure of the tale. The twists in the base story was good and the heart and soal of the Bennie Griesel is amazing.
