About this listen

Something is devouring Milo, and this time it isn't just his guilty conscience. Meet the Bentley brothers; Milo, a troubled young man who slaughters women at the behest of his cruel older brother, Spencer. Their already complicated lives slip into a spiral of madness when Milo is attacked by a werewolf during a routine body disposal. While Milo is unsure what is happening to him, Spencer finds he prefers the company of the wolf, and does everything he can to keep Milo from discovering the truth. The truth, however, is a complication all its own, with or without the beast.

The family that preys together stays together, in this wild take on the werewolf mythology.

An entertaining, albeit short, story.

What made the experience of listening to Devouring Milo the most enjoyable?

Luke Smith's exemplary talents as a narrator.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The complexity of interactions & the relationships between the characters are what I found most interesting. The only thing that I can point to as possibly uninteresting is that the story is a little slow at the beginning.

What does Luke Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Luke Smith did a brilliant job bringing Tonia Brown's characters to life. His performance here added an extra level of enjoyment that I doubt I would have gotten if I'd merely read this story as text.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but I can't be specific without revealing spoilers.

Any additional comments?

Ms Brown is the first author I've seen who uses this particular plot twist in a text format. I've seen it in TV & film, but never in a book, so that was quite refreshing and caught me completely flat footed.

Both the ending Ms Brown chose and the book's brevity were disappointing to me. I kind of understand why she chose the conclusion she did, but I kept hoping it would take a different direction. I felt somewhat cheated at the end. This is one of those books that could have easily ended much more unconventionally. I would have appreciated Ms Brown delving further into the characters of Milo & the beast by extending the novel considerably.

Finally, I received this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review.

** I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

Milo and Spencer are serial killers...many women have been violated and killed at there hands..then one night, Milo gets attacked by a werewolf...and that just adds to the insanity....there is a big twist here...and if you like horror/thrillers that are very twisted....you will enjoy this...this is a very unique and creative story...and worth a listen if you like this genre...

Devouring Milo

Any additional comments?

Just a warning, this book isn't for the faint of heart! The author is very descriptive in all of her writing, but Devouring Milo takes it to the next level. It is gory to the extreme, and with Tonia's descriptions, I felt as if I was witness to the horrors taking place. Every sight, sound and smell in the story was beautifully horrific.

AOW! (Or whatever a wolf says)

New book from Badass Zombie Road Trip! Yeah! I loved Badass Zombie Road Trip, and i wanted to love this. Guess what: I did! Devouring Milo is a different kind of book, but still a lot of the humor from BZRT was here! Tonia Brown is fast growing as one of my favorite "Zombie like" books! Here she plays with werewolf mythos and i LOVE it! 4 hrs and 50 mins are 4 hrs and 50 mins in "gore heaven"! So children: Stay away! I think Tonia Brown is going to be something BIG! I think she is somewhat a new and undiscovered talent that people need to hear about!

I know Luke Smith from Dead Cells where he read the book a bit to fast for me. Here he not only does a good job, but a excellent job! His werewolf in this is one of the BEST werewolves i have heard! a 5 star review should not been given easy! So i am proud of giving this book a 5 out of 5, and Luke Smith is apart of that, with a excellent book from Tonia Brown

Unique thriller

Would you consider the audio edition of Devouring Milo to be better than the print version?

The audio adds more of a sense of drama and sets the scene in a way that the print version would not be able to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The young woman Milo was in love with. It was Miko's love for her that caused him to face himself.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Milo finally became reality oriented and realized the truth about who and what he was and took responsibility for his actions.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The beast within.

This is a complex intense unique thriller delving into the psyche of a troubled mind. There are surprises in the novel and things are not what they seem. It is about an internal beast that is eating away and emerging from the main character. In the conclusion the main character, Milo, finally takes control of himself and his internal demon and accepts responsibility for his his actions.

He Ain't Hairy, He's My Brother

After reading Tonia Brown's Skin Trade and Lucky Stiff, it was readily apparent she knew how to twist the zombie genre in new and interesting ways. So when I had the chance to listen to this audiobook, I had to wonder what she would have in store for the werewolf mythos. Hoo boy, she had plans.

The Bentley brothers, Spencer and Milo, are killers. Though, Spencer being the older brother leaves him calling the shots, and taking more of a fiendish delight in the trail of blood they leave behind. But it's when Milo is attacked by a werewolf one night that the family dynamic changes ... in more ways than one.

The interplay between these two brothers feels almost Shakespearean in nature, although there's less eloquence in their back-and-forth than there are expletives. Throw in the fact that Milo's shifting into a wolf has a bit of a Jekyll & Hyde element, and the dynamic becomes all the intriguing.

Giving voice to these characters was Luke Smith's narration, who did a real good job conveying the tension, rivalry, and deeply flawed nature of each character. His performance as the wolf was especially chilling.

If you're looking for something a little off the beaten path with your werewolf stories, but want something raw and nasty all the same, this book is for you. And if you can score the Audible version, the performance should make the experience that much more visceral.

Not a Typical Shifter Story

What did you love best about Devouring Milo?

Not sure "loved" is the correct word, but my favorite character is the blonde "ghost". She brought and added depth to the madness.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Devouring Milo?

The end when all of your suspensions are confirmed and a few surprises are thrown at you.

What does Luke Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does scary well. The gravel in his voice make me look in the closet before I shut out the light.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is not a light, fluffy listen, it is dark and pretty intense and there are gory parts.
