About this listen

For decades, Marnie Baranuik has been the vigilant but often frustrated daytime guardian for Lord Harry Dreppenstedt, undead aristocrat and all around sass-mouth. As a DaySitter, witch, and psychic detective working closely with the Preternatural Crimes Unit of the FBI, Marnie battles a wild assortment of crimes and monsters, but none so formidable as her own flaws and the poor judgement of her heart.

In this, the first trilogy in the Files, Marnie throws down with dark witches, malevolent psychics, smart-mouthed vampires, accidental ghouls, zombies, a slap-happy poltergeist, and a hot vampire hunter who may drive her wild if he doesn't drive her off the deep end first.

Join Marnie and her resident Cold Companion in the novels Touched, Death Rejoices, and Last Impressions, and let the weird times roll.

2 hour commute savoir..a rare find!

I am a 12hr night shifter with a 2 hour commute. I depend on really good audible books to keep me awake and interested on my drive. I have found only a few series that the narrator and author keep me interested enough to keep going., book after book. This series though...I love the story and narrator. I can't just limit myself to my commute, but listen every chance I get! thank you for being that rare find! I had started and stopped so many books, I was losing hope! Thank you!!!

LOL Hilarious!

I absolutely love this series! I'm giving it a 2nd listen through before I listen to the most recent book released. I forgot just how hilarious it is. I mean, barking laughing at work because I cannot help it! Just marvelous.

Great series

It was a great series, with excellent narration, and is so funny. I literally found myself getting the silliest looks as I was laughing out loud with my headphones on like a maniac. I highly recommend it, and I’m going to look into additional books in the series and other titles from A.J. Aalto.

It’s good but…also freaking annoying

Okay. Talk about slow burn. This series is that. A super slow burning burn of stupid silly burning. I mean that thing that authors do where they tell you at the start that two people want to be together and then spend the entirety of the material yo-yo-ing them (and you as the reader or listener) about! Freaking frustrating as hell. It’s good, don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed certain parts immensely. Pompous Harry. Alpha Batten. Points. Bonds. The Blue sense. All the f*ckery and shenanigans- not to mention some truly gobsmacking, unbelievably inventive swear tangents. Godzilla. I needed to take breaks and wash my ear holes with a mellowed type of book every so often. Half the time I wanted to root for Marnie but the other, I wanted to smack her into the next book already. Shes quite selfish even as she is aware her decisions are ill-advised, which after awhile made her character pretty predictable. She is a bit rude and somewhat obtuse for a “smart” person, an expert. In my head she is a mashup of Penelope Garcia and Lorelei Gilmore. Still there is a quality of realness to her. Grit. She is brutally honest about who she is and what she does and why she does it. Coupled with quirky weirdness and an irreverent sense of humor, I could not let it go unfinished. Could not stop listening for long. The supporting characters helped so much with this- I loved the easy flow and character building seen from book to book. Great interpretation and performance from the narrator also help. I will keep on listening.

Read & Listened & Love them All!

This is a fantastic series and the narrator nails the characters! I was starting to lose hope in audiobooks and this fully revived me. whenever I'm bored and don't have the time to find another new book series, I look to this one again I just start re-listening to it in the background and remember why it is in my Top 5 favorite books of all time. it's sarcastic, realistic, very much a 'laugh out loud in public '-listen, all the characters tied together very well and the main character is super quirky, The colorful dialog between the main character w/ any of her relationships or adversaries is laugh out loud, worthy and easily envisioned mentally. The narrator really helps bring this together, but the author does a fantastic job pulling all the characters into the plot with just enough background. This is one of those book series that you want spinoffs and to know more about each character's background. I can easily see this being a series. This is a narrator. I do. enjoy and between the book world and her style of narration, this is a perfect movie in my head every time I listen. I really hope that Amy McFadden records the last audiobook. I need more marnie!
