About this listen

“My career in the San Francisco PD ended the day I arrested my husband.”

Maggie Doyle gives her cheating ex and crumbling career in the San Francisco PD the proverbial middle finger, and moves to the Wild West...of Ireland.

Lured by her aunt’s promise of a restful Irish vacation, Maggie agrees to help out at the Movie Theater Café in exchange for bed and board. Things are looking up - until the most hated woman on Whisper Island is poisoned at the café. With her aunt as the prime suspect, Maggie and her rock-hard muffins are hurled into the murder investigation.

With the help of her UFO-enthusiast friend, a nun, and a feral puppy, Maggie is determined to clear her aunt’s name. Can she catch the murderer before they strike again? Or will her terrible baking skills burn down the cafe first?

Fun Characters, Fast-pacedIsland Murder Mystery

Engaging storytelling with wry humor amid small fishing port community. Characters clash as tensions and small-town rumors fly after a well-known but highly disliked local gossip is found dead after a community movie party.

The story focuses on Maggie, a former San Francisco detective, who has flown to Whisper Island in Ireland to visit with her Aunt Noreen. Suspicions and resentments grow as Maggie's trained investigative skills make her an unpopular island interloper. The story's told with a self-deprecating first-person account by Maggie, as she struggles to fit in. The Irish charm and provincial manner gives this tale a slightly irreverent but engaging tone but still in family-friendly language. A delightful contrast and escape from more serious and convoluted works.

The character personalities come to life with vivid dialogues and narration dramatic voices. A great listening and reading experience. I plan continuing this enjoyable series.

Kept my attention the entire time

Doggoneitall I lost sleep over this one. This was the story that I put on a timer to fall asleep. It's also the first story I listened to while brushing my teeth; I couldn't get enough.

I loved it and am looking for the next in the series.
