Publisher's summary

Galvanic Winds. Unimaginable power of the electrikus drawn, as if by magic, from nothingness. A tremulous sky punctuated with hulking grey and black dirigibles. The introduction of the Whelti Warbler into the technological mix. High stakes adventures battling Livonian pirates high above the earth. Yes, all of this and more!

The Professor, obsessed with the calculations emanating from the Badger Babbage Engine anchored to bedrock with high-tensile steel bolts down in the Augusta Mill’s basement, powered by the grist mill’s slowly turning water wheel. The flat leather drive belts with their many punched holes flowing and flapping between the black cast-iron pulleys, each pulley the size of a Conestoga wagon wheel. The ponderous assemblage of gears, shafts and latching escapements driven by a belt acting as a stored program. But to what purpose?

Doctor Minneapolis St. Paul, now having taken up with Doctor Zetaprst, clearly to no good end as has been grumbled by more than one person of sound mind and body. More than a handful of folks trembled when she nonchalantly cast out the news that Doctor Zetaprst was her “boyfriend”. In context, no one could even imagine what that might mean.

A note to our gentle and health-conscious readers; some characters in this story such as the Professor and other characters of good intent do in fact often engage in and enjoy smoking pipes or cigars and this is not meant to be a glamorization or promotion of that vile behavior among the general public in any way. No seriously, my friends, please stop giggling. On second thought, it is ok if some of you feel the need to smirk. Everyone appreciates a proper smirk.

There is some possibility that this story follows closely on the heels of Cerberus and the Gulyas Leves since several, perhaps many, of the characters appear in both stories. As will quickly become apparent to even the casual reader, this and the other earlier works are largely autobiographical. Professor Stanwell P. Briar DdU, DdP, Ex libris
