About this listen

Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeremiah Halstead keeps the peace in the mining town of Silver Cloud, Montana. But an old enemy has declared war against him.

Ruthless and clever, Ed Zimmerman would have become the leader of one of the west's deadliest and hell-bent outlaw gangs. Zimmerman has offered a generous bounty to every desperado willing to put a bullet through the U.S. Deputy Marshal's heart.

A death sentence won't stop Halstead from enforcing the law. The sheriff of Battle Brook needs a hand dealing with some hell-raising badmen in the surrounding hills, threatening to take over the frontier town. Joined by Deputy Sandborne, Halstead rides hard for Battle Brook only to discover manhunters aware of the price on his head are in town, guns cocked and ready to collect the reward.

And Zimmerman has joined the outlaws in the hills, waiting to catch Halstead in his sights . . .

Acceptable

Story line a little lite but acceptable. Narration was good
I would not put this on the top of my list but I bought it.

Incorrect terminology. Author needs to do more research on Western subjects.

Same storyline as the first one. Not much difference. Author needs to do more research on terminology and geographic locations

A sorry western!

For 90% of this book Jeremiah gets out smarted, out maneuvered by Zimmerman who kills just about everyone in sight. Thinking this horse opera will end with the good guy getting the bad guy, ending this bloody saga in typical western style justice. But, no. Jeremiah out witted again…no resolution. I see book 3, apparently the final book in the series has Zimmerman again pitted against the hapless Jeremiah. He will probably be bested by Zimmerman for 99% of the novel, before getting his man in an unsatisfying ending. Jeremiah just killed 4 or 5 miners for trying to get their money out of the bank, yet show remarkable restraint not killing the mass murder, Zimmerman, when his deputy tries to use the town sheriff as a bargaining chip…he kills the faux deputy, as he should have, but stupidity doesn’t end Zimmerman, who he could have said tried to go for a gun. Jeremiah ends up killing almost as many innocents as Zimmerman. The book was saved by J Rodney Turner’s narration. The worst is there is no audiobook for book 3! I like the characters, but their character development is inconsistent. Jeremiah readily blows away the minor henchmen, but always fails to cut the head off the snake. I’m sure Zimmerman will kill 40 50 innocent people before Jeremiah finally ends Zimmerman!
