Publisher's summary

Tom Baker reprises the role of the Fourth Doctor in the first of five thrilling brand-new adventures, with Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey

The Doctor’s return to Nest Cottage lands him in trouble when a key component from the TARDIS disappears. Mrs Wibbsey is inadvertently responsible, but all she can offer in recompense is a bag containing four curious objects. It seems that each one is a clue, and the beginning of a chase through Time.

In ancient Sussex, they are apprehended by primitive tribesfolk, and mistaken for wizards. Can the revered goddess Wibbsentia get them out of hot water? Who is the fearful wizard in the neighbouring village, and why is the countryside littered with bodies? The Doctor and Mrs Wibbsey are about to discover that all is not right with history….

With Tom Baker as the Doctor, Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey, Nigel Anthony as the Wizard, Rupert Holliday Evans and Kate Sachs as the Warriors, and Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, The Relics of Time is the first of five linked stories written by the acclaimed Paul Magrs.

Better Than Nothing

With other Doctor Who Doctors (5-8) available in new audio stories, and with no new classic Doctor books, there has been a lack of new 4th Doctor adventures. This (and the other 4 stories in the set) fill the gap reasonably well.

There's nothing special about the performance: with just a couple of actors, it's harder to enjoy the action, but it's good enough for what it is.

If you're missing 4th Doctor adventures, it's worth a try. If you're looking for new Doctor Who adventures (Eccleston, Tennant, Smith), it's probably not going to be what you're expecting.

Tom Baker: the best Doctor

Where does Doctor Who: Demon Quest 1 - The Relics of Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Really great, with some excellent voice acting from Tom Baker and Susan Jameson

What was one of the most memorable moments of Doctor Who: Demon Quest 1 - The Relics of Time?

The phenomenal sound effects, from the sound of the TARDIS to atmospheric sounds

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

The Doctor, as played by Tom Baker

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Loved it

Any additional comments?

More like an audio play than a narrated audiobook, Doctor Who: Demon Quest 1-5 continues the adventures of the Fourth Doctor Who. Before listening to this one, it's best to also listen to Doctor Who: The Hornet's Nest, which is connected

Costly

You should be aware that this is but one of five episodes. They are good, but short. So you are going to pay $50 or worse 5 credits for about 5 hours of excellent entertainment.

My First Doctor Lives again!

Where does Doctor Who: Demon Quest 1 - The Relics of Time rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I am reviewing the entire Demon Quest series, not just part 1. Tom Baker was the first Doctor I watched growing up. He is also my favorite of the doctors 1 thru 8.

This story was like time traveling back to the 70's and watching my Saturday guilty pleasure from the UK. That also, makes me feel old.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would not have have the audio book broken into parts. I would have each story arch as one audio book.

What about the narrators???s performance did you like?

Tom Baker, enough said! However, Nigel Anthony and Susan Jameson added their equally good talent to this story. The three narrators elevate an average story line to make this a must have, for fan's of The fourth Doctor.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, the Tom Baker audible books seem to be broken down to four or five parts. When you buy all the parts to the story, it gets to be a bit pricey for a 5 hour audio.

Any additional comments?

If you can afford it and are a fourth doctor fan, it is money well spent

Tom Baker is the best Doctor.

This was a great chapter to a new little mini series. I loved Tom Baker as a child. I always wanted him to come back as the Doctor. Now I can listen to him and his new companion in their new adventures.

Certainly not a Big Finish Production

I had no interest in this at all after going through the Nest series, but this set was a present.
This story is a great deal better, simply because it's all in active story telling rather than The Doctor and Capt Yates chatting by a fireplace.
But still, no where near the quality of writing, story telling, or audio effects as Big Finish has been producing since 1999.
As others have complained, having to go through 5 files for one story seems a bit expensive, and I have to agree.
But it was a present...
