Publisher's summary

The floor was stone cold on her bare skin. Her heart pounded in her chest. Not a soul knows where I am, she thought as she took in the darkness around her. And then she heard his footsteps....

When a body is found stuffed into a barrel at a garbage dump, covered in long red lacerations, Detective Jenna Alton and her new deputy, David Kane, rush to the scene.

Nothing ever happens in the small American town of Black Rock Falls, so Jenna believes the victim must be one of two recent missing persons, and she fears for the life of the other.

Both were strangers to the town, but there's nothing else to link them. Jenna knows someone must have seen something, but no one's talking. How well does she really know the people around her?

Then a disturbing clue makes Jenna suspect a connection with other disappearances in the town's history. Just when she begins asking the right questions, she realizes she's being followed. Is she next on the killer's list?

In a race against time, Jenna and David must unlock the dark secret at the heart of the town before it's too late....

A completely addictive detective thriller that will have you guessing right to the end. Perfect for listeners of Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter, and Rachel Abbott.

I'm returning this one

I'm about a third of the way through and I just can't listen to this narrator any longer. She doesn't have a pleasant voice and her dialogue is done in monotone. People don't sound like that! It's bad. I'm going to return it and get my credit back.

So far the story is ok, but I'd recommend reading it!

Don’t Tell a Soul

D. K. Hood has crafted a decent police thriller. The ending ruined the story. Without spoilers, I can’t explain further. Alison Farina did a nice job of bringing it all to life.

Ok story but tiring "who's boss" conflict.

Story only 3/4 engaging. Narrator not so good at rough male parts and to girly sounding to take seriously as any kind of tough badass.

Mediocre

Decent plot, but terrible detective work. Far fetched explanations and deductions, painful dialogue, and downright stupid actions taken by the sheriff. Overall, it’s just not believable. Disappointed - was hoping to have found a decent American detective series. I’ll be going back to my British DCI series.

Violence

Way too violent for my taste although the story was good. I liked the telling without cursing.

Gritty, Dark

I was disappointed in the narrator. Sounded almost like a young girl with such a dark and gritty plot. I was actually distracted from the story. The beginning was so po precise and detailed I curled into myself with the pain. There were areas to let you breathe before the brutality of man kind. Twists, red herrings, secrets. A true thriller. I will be looking for book 2.

Very good

Really enjoyed this book. It was my first by this author, and I hope there will be more to follow. Great story line and great character development. Well worth the credit!

Story pretty good. Narrator amateur.

Read first 3rd, and really enjoyed it. Bought audio, and it was mediocre at best. I'll probably read the rest of the series but definitely won't be buying any of the other audiobooks.

My new favorite series, minus the terrible narrato

Great thriller that keeps you guessing though the narrator sounded like an elementary student reading to the class.
