About this listen

John Piper writes on the eve of his own cancer surgery to help others with cancer, as well as their friends and family.

How are we as Christians called to respond when cancer invades our lives, whether our own bodies or those of our friends and family?

On the eve of his own cancer surgery, John Piper writes about cancer as an opportunity to glorify God. With pastoral sensitivity, compassion, and strength, Piper gently but firmly acknowledges that we can indeed waste our cancer when we don’t see how it is God’s good plan for us and a hope-filled path for making much of Jesus.

Don’t Waste Your Cancer is for anyone touched by a life-threatening illness. It first appeared as an appendix in Suffering and the Sovereignty of God. Repackaged and republished, it will serve as a hope-giving resource for healthcare workers, pastors, counselors, and others caring for those with cancer and other serious illnesses.

I really liked it. It's something I will want to listen to it more than once because there is a lot to think about.

thought provoking

This is EXTREMELY short. The actual words of John Piper are less than thirty minutes and is read by someone that sounds like a computer. It is then followed by perhaps twenty minutes of Bible reading (less monotone reader). Once I made the choice to appreciate the voice, I got a lot out of this. Valuable thoughts on the journey we’re facing. I really appreciate Piper’s perspective and drive and encouragement. He doesn’t beat around the bush. I DO recommend this.

Monotone but great content

I was encouraged to listen to 'Don't Waste Your Cancer' by John Piper. I generally do not care for religious books, but this one surprised me with its heart. We do not have cancer, but we have been sick a lot. This book puts into perspective our daily struggles that I can not change; I should not waste them. Life is awesome, live it and do not waste any of it, even if it is definitely not what you ordered.

Five minutes into the reading, I was surprised to learn that it was being read by a human (not trying to insult or flippant).

Perhaps it was a strategy so as to not get in the way of the text. But the content was superb. Should be listened to while reading the text; won’t take long.

Great Content, Robotic Reading
