About this listen

"I have read no book that more carefully, thoroughly, and tenderly displays Christ's heart." (Paul David Tripp, President, Paul Tripp Ministries; author, New Morning Mercies and My Heart Cries Out)

Christians know what Jesus Christ has done — but who is he? What is his deepest heart for his people, weary and faltering on their journey toward heaven? Jesus said he is "gentle and lowly in heart." This audiobook reflects on these words, opening up a neglected yet central truth about who he is for sinners and sufferers today.

The Most Impactful Book in My Walk with Jesus

This is a book I would have loved to have in my hands 30 years ago. The grace and truth in these pages is a sweet balm to a wearied heart. Heavily reliant or Scripture and Puritan theologians, Ortlund beautifully conveys the true heart of Christ for His people with encouragement and hope for the days between now and when we enter His eternal presence. This is a book for every believer who wants to more fully understand their Savior’s heart for them.

Well done

The author pulls back the curtain to show us much more of the Father’s heart. This was required reading for school staff, and I’m glad! I have. A much Better picture of the father, the son and spirit. My upbringing was the opposite, and I am grateful this author use the word of God to show the correct picture of God.
I am re-listening to it again. Thanks

What every heart needs to hear

This book was so good for my soul. Ortlund does an amazing job at shining a light on the heart of Christ that I could not help but worship and be amazed by the fact that the heart of Jesus is so for sinners. The way he opens scriptures and uses puritans and other theologians to speak to the heart of Christ and his nature was very encouraging.

One of the best books I've read

I love how the author shows us both Christ's AND the Father's love for us. I've never read a book that explained it so well. It really made the message of the Epistle to the Romans come alive for me -that God's love for me is unshakeable. My favorite thing I got from it was understanding God's "strange work" and what comes natural to Him -read it to find out more! The author's reading of it is so perfect, too. I first read it in book form, and then got it on Audible. I think every Christian should read this!

A great book to pair with this is "Transforming Grace" by Jerry Bridges, and then "Respectable Sins" also by Jerry Bridges (just to even things out).

Lovely

Grateful teachers and leaders write books like this. Even for someone (myself) who thought going in they had a pretty good grasp on the merciful heart of God, this was so edifying and equipping. Helped me root deeper still.
