About this listen

“A smart, snappy writer who hits your funny bone!” (Janet Evanovich).

It’s Davis Way’s first slot-tournament season. And it may be her last. Things are dicey at work. A personal assistant goes missing, a little old lady goes on a suspicious winning streak, and a Bellissimo executive goes gaga for Davis. She follows a disappearing slot-tournament player trail to the So Help Me God Pentecostal Church in Beehive, Alabama, then jumps headlong into a high stakes holy scandal. She’s on a losing streak at home, too. Her days, nights, and dinners run together, as Davis juggles a revolving door of uninvited guests, namely her rotten ex-ex-husband, Eddie Crawford. And Bradley Cole thinks three’s a crowd. The worst? Davis doesn’t feel so hot. Maybe it’s the banana pudding, or maybe it’s a little bundle of something else. Double Dip. A reckless ride in the fast lane, and Davis Way can’t find the brakes.

A Humorous Farcical Mystery Adventure

This is a humorous audiobook. The narration is very good. The comedic timing is good and here are times I laughed out loud.

The story seemed fairly unlikely. There is a LOT of detailed descriptions of women's clothing that may appeal to some readers more than others.

I liked the story as a light read when I was relaxing. In the event it mattered I liked the first audiobook in this series better. Thank You...

Great story and great narration

Double Dip starts like a roller coaster building up stream and once it reaches the top of the first hill, it just keeps picking up speed. Hard to put down.

More solid cozy mystery

(As posted in GoodReads)
I've been continuing with my cozy mystery jaunt and the Davis Way crime books. This one had a little more love tension, and relationships ended up being questioned and closely observed. Fortunately, the fact that I know nothing about gambling and the different games again proved not to negatively affect the book understanding. The new characters introduced spiced the story appropriately, and that that is still bad, and the good is still good, and the unknown is still mixed. I had fun.

More than Double delightful

This book has so many plot lines going... it's wonderful. One of my favorites of the series. I love Ass-ass Eddie's mother, Bea. She's so fabulously despicable, always had her own interests at heart (does she have a heart?). Davis is kept running, juggling about four things at any given time, but she struggles through. And of course, Fantasy is the best.

Surprising Good

So many books say they remind one of Janet Evanovich. So many authors try too hard. This was a good story that didn’t take itself too seriously and was fun without being absurd. The characters were interesting and fun without being cartoonish. I have to say I enjoyed it. And this is the first book of the last 4 that I didn’t have to listen on a quicker speed.

not crazy about new narrator but still love Davis

Is there anything you would change about this book?

was just as funny as the first.however the story line ran up and down through a lot of places.a little hard to follow sometimes but I love all the characters.

Would you be willing to try another book from Gretchen Archer? Why or why not?

I would be willing to try another book I like her story lines. I like the characters in this book. think just need more focus next time.

What didn’t you like about Amber Benson’s performance?

she was not as animated as the first narrator

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Excellent funtime story!

When I am in the mood to listen to something fun and entertaining to escape from daily stresses, I usually download a Janet Evanovich book. Since I have everything she has ever written I was excited to discover Gretchen Archer. She writes with the same carefree, lets laugh at ourselves style, that Janet has but in her own original way. Her characters are believable and you can always find yourself saying "Yes, I know someone like that!!" This story is also well narrated. I have become a fan of not only Gretchen but of Amber Benson as well. She is very talented and brings Davis to life as well as all the other characters. Keep writing Gretchen! And Keep reading Amber.
