About this listen

As a small-town reporter for the Bergen News, Chris Turley could never measure up to his father, Edward - one of the last great investigative journalists. With his father's legend ever-present, Chris dreams of his own Pulitzer, as he bides his time covering press conferences and town hall meetings. Then one day his fortunes turn.

While waiting to interview a source, Chris witnesses the explosion of a nearby office building and is thrust into action rescuing five people from near-certain death. His firsthand account in the next day's newspaper makes him an instant hero and a celebrity. And that's not all. The source's next tip leads to a second headline-grabbing story.

Suddenly, Chris' career is looking a lot more like his father's. But what seemed like a reporter's dream quickly becomes an inescapable nightmare. This anonymous source has had a plan for Chris all along, and his fortune for being in the right place at the right time is not a coincidence at all.

Down to the Wire, David Rosenflet's shocking new thriller about an ordinary man who gets exactly what he's always wanted at a price he can never pay, is an intense thrill ride that will keep listeners from wanting to press pause right up to the end.

Critic reviews

“High-voltage entertainment from an author who plots and writes with verve and wit....Plot twists and red herrings abound, and Rosenfelt ratchets up tension with the precision of a skilled auto mechanic wielding a torque wrench.” ( Booklist)

Predictable but Surprising At the End

Should have been more surprising about an hour earlier. I like the author. Going to try the dog books.

Report and Investigate

Slow start. Not much of a story and not much excitement.
Best part was the end.

Slow to start

Starts slowly and doesn't pick up for awhile . Tense last few chapters. Not an Andy Carpenter style novel. Enjoyable story for a lazy day.

Disappointed

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Loved Rosenfelts other books..but disappointed in this one. It lacked the humor, the likeable characterization..the dogs. Tara.Hope he writes more with Andy.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I was not impressed....to start

I have read multiple books by this author and have been thrilled to find his writings

However, I thought I’d pushed my luck by purchasing this one because it seemed to have lacked the energy that I’d experienced in the Andy Carpenter series as well as DR’s other writings...I actually moved on to another audio book and then came back to Down to the Wire.

So glad I did!! I was one of DR’s best...

I will continue to anticipate with pleasure the writings of this author

Kept me guessing about the outcome until the very end

Already a fan of David Rosenfelt, I bought this book with high expectations. I have to say that this book is even better than many in the Andy Carpenter series. And the reader kept me glued

Perfect book for a picky reader

Rosenfelt did an excellent job holding my attention from start to finish. The story brings you on an action pack journey with many sudden twist and turns. If you’re looking for a book that’s hard to put down I highly recommend this one.
