About this listen

Judge Daniel Brennan is only days away from achieving a seat on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals bench when he's brutally stabbed to death in his garage. An army of media and law enforcement descend on the case, and thousands of tips pour in from the public. When one tip leads New Jersey policeman Luke Somers to Steven Gallagher, things quickly go wrong, but Luke is instantly glorified for solving the case.

But to one man, Luke is no hero. Chris Gallagher raised his brother, Steven, almost single-handedly, and, certain that Steven is innocent, he won't rest until he sets the record straight. Thanks to Luke's newfound fame, he's an easy man to find, and Chris quickly makes it clear that Luke's own brother will die if Luke refuses to help clear Steven's name.

So begins Luke's desperate attempt to find another suspect - and other suspect - in Judge Brennan's death. But Luke's investigation might open the door to powerful forces even more dangerous than Chris Gallagher.

Critic reviews

“…He (Narrator Jeff Steitzer) has a wonderful deep and gravelly voice, very natural and pleasant to listen to. Steitzer reads with feeling and the many and well-developed characters, all of whom are voiced, ring true. His handling of the dry humor characteristic of Rosenfelt’s writing is excellent. The plot, wild and occasionally over-complicated, will draw listeners in immediately.” ( Sound Commentary)

Jeff Steitzer made this a great listen!

What made the experience of listening to Airtight the most enjoyable?

I am a big fan of David Rosenfelt and have loved all his books but Jeff Steitzer did such a great job reading this bringing life to each character with different voices and accents that it was really fun to listen to. I would highly recommend this audiobook!

Best David Rosenfelt Book Yet

I've always enjoyed David's books, but this one was outstanding. I thought the story was very tightly written and extremely suspenseful. Throughout the book, you could almost feel the clock ticking down while following the twisted path. The story line was very topical and complex without being too confusing. Even though "fracking" is the protester issue du jour, David put a great spin on it and used that to his advantage. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a suspenseful, fast-moving thriller.

What an ending!

The twists and turns will keep you trying to guess the outcome. Good luck with that. Great book!

Enjoyed the story..

...but found the ending disturbing. It's just another piece of how our society has lost track of the difference between justice and revenge.
The overall storyline, though, was absorbing and made for a great who-dunnit.

Good enough but nothing special

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Difficult to buy into the story. It was hard to believe the main character would kill the kid - it was inconsistent with he type of person he was supposed to be and it bugged me. Why didn't he just shoot him in the arm? And then the cops don't investigate if the kid really did the murder till they're forced to? And when the brother gets kidnapped the cop brother doesn't start a search right away?? Really?

If you’ve listened to books by David Rosenfelt before, how does this one compare?

Love the Andy series and this one was more of a C+ kind of book.

Did Jeff Steitzer do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Pretty good but some of his characters were annoying - I like it better when they just read and don't try to be someone else.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Nope.

Any additional comments?

More Andy Carpenter!

Not His Best

David Rosenfelt should stick with the Andy Carpenter stories.........which are super!! I have read every single one. However, this book was hard to follow, hard to believe.............and totally missing the Rosenfelt humor found in the Carpenter books.

Average

An easy listen / read, but after reading the Andy Carpenter series, this does not compare.
Good storyline and easy to finish, but somehow one doesn't "connect" with the cast.....the main characters didn't really develop "real" personalities although it seems like the author tried HARD to make them do so

Where's his humor? Where's his passion - for people and for dogs and even for sports and sport bar food? Please bring him back!

Would you ever listen to anything by David Rosenfelt again?

Yes.....

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Not up to Rosenfelt's standards

I hope that David reads this review. It seems to me that the trick to mystery writing is to get the to think "I can't believe that this is happening"... all the while totally believing that this is happening. The story has to be believable while being unique, fiction and intriguing. Once I start knowing what's going to happen or thinking that this just doesn't make sense, you lost me. In this book, I never bought the story that Chris, a war hero and trained military person, going to come back and avenge his druggie brother's death the police; totally based on the words of the deceased's wife. He then kidnaps the police officer's brother? The other challenge with this book is the Narrator. Seems like a nice enough guy, could narrate Whinny the Poo for my kids. Not good for a mystery novel.
