Publisher's summary

Officer Michael Prim doesn't know much about his father, but remembers bedtime stories of mercenary wars, dragon slaying, and demon fighting. With his father gone, he serves as a hard charging beat cop in the Blue Point Police Department, never growing comfortable with the Dragon Badge they wear. He knows how to hunt down cop killing gang members, bring street justice down on wife beaters and child molesters, and put some muscle in police action. Yet something wicked is invading Blue Point, capturing souls and using the bodies as functional zombies to spread chaos and destruction.

Soul stealing and zombie gang warfare has got to be a crime. Magic and sorcery had no place in police work before Travass Isegurad came with hellhounds, demons, and a relentless obsession to destroy the exiled son of the last Dragonslayer.

This was a hot surprise. In the good way.

Dragon Badge
This is not normally my genre to read, but it was suggested so I gave it a try.
Color me impressed. Very impressed.
For an Urban Fantasy novel, this was grittier and better than I expected. Way better. There wasn’t a single predictable outcome as I read this story. And I did not expect this much action. This is the kind of book that gets you reading a genre you normally wouldn’t.
This book is not for people who want feathery plots and droll, predictable outcomes. This is for people who believe in upholding the law while riding bareback on hell-hounds, slapping dragon butts, insulting powerful wizards and kicking demons in the nether regions.
It’s THAT kind of book.
LOVED it, and I am getting the sequel!

Terrible

This book was terrible. It starts off pretty good, you get sucked in then it just gets stupid. Moon keeps throwing stuff at you and you feel like, where the hell is he going with this? But you never get an answer. There's a part where I think the main character dimension shifts, but I'm not fully sure. It's very weird. Then the end is just nothing but cop killing and death and no fight scenes and then the two guys who absolutely hate each other team up and kill a guy. It's like thinking that Batman and Joker might team up to take somebody down. Between the raped junkies and the man eating dogs...It was just terrible and stupid. Save your money/credit for something that isn't' a complete POS.

Had me wondering and guessing the whole time!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the story is very compelling and will have you guessing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dragon Badge?

The realization by Michael Prim that all is truly not as it seems, himself included.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to list.

Any additional comments?

The narrator takes a little getting used to, but about an hour into it I realized that he did a really good job with his characterizations.

This book is not my usual sort of read, but I really enjoyed it. The police codes threw me off and confused me a bit at the beginning, but a quick internet search took care of that. The world and the characters in that world are carefully thought out and seem very "real", even when things start to change and the not so "normal" start to come out and play. One of the things that I liked about this book was that there are so many subtle little hints given from the very beginning that things are not as mundane they appear. I've read the book twice now and listened to the audio book version. Each time I caught something new that I had overlooked.

This is not a light and fluffy urban fantasy read. There is loss, love, violence, mystery, and drama. There is a wonderful blending of the real with the unreal that makes the world it's set in believable. I plan on reading the second book very soon... if I don't go back and re-read or re-listen to this one once again, that is! Books like this one keep me completely engaged with the world in which they are set and have me going back for more, which is why I gave it five stars.

I purchased this book for myself. All opinions within this review are true, honest, and completely my own.
