About this listen

A kingdom in peril. A deadly secret. A choice that could shatter everything.

Neill Torvald has lived his life in the shadow of his father’s iron rule. Now, the future of the warlord’s empire rests on Neill’s shoulders, and his journey to the mysterious Draconis Order monastery is his last chance to prove his worth. But when a vicious ambush nearly kills him, Neill realizes that the dangers ahead are far greater than anyone could have imagined.

Saved by Jodreth, a cryptic monk with his own hidden agenda, Neill is thrust into a world of ancient magic, dragons, and treachery. Inside the sacred halls of the monastery, Neill encounters Char—a captivating and enigmatic student who warns him of a growing darkness within the Order. Together with her dragon, Paxala, they forge an alliance that will be tested by secrets and betrayals lurking around every corner.

The wrong decision could unleash a catastrophe that will consume both his kingdom and the world beyond. The right one could change his destiny forever—but it may cost him everything.

Great narration, good originality

This first installment left me curious about the relationship of dragons and magic in this world. It seems to have a unique approach, and even the first book does not bridge all these questions and leaves a reader wanting for the rest of the series. Vantage passes between two young heroes facing different problems over the course of the book. Narration is top notch. Only downside, some repetitiveness and hammering of points that I'm not sure if meant for a younger audience or typical of audiobooks, since I am still new to the experience. I plan on continuing the series and look forward to the next installment.

Good clean dragon fun

I love stories with dragons and have since I was a kid. I also enjoy YA stories that are engaging without explicit content. This was a story of perseverance, loyalty, and finding a place in the world. The characters are well developed and the descriptive language allows you to create a rich picture. Williams did a wonderful job narrating and distinguishing the characters. I recommend it for an easy, enjoyable listen. I look forward to listening to the others in the series.

Sooo Good

Ava Richardson writes just as beautifully as her book covers!

The storytelling of both author Ava Richardson and narrator Tiffany Williams is an awesome combo. Ms. Williams captures the adventure and the heart of Neil, Char and Pax. I found myself sitting in my car longer, waiting for a clean break before I could shut off my audio. LOL

I was so sad, when I saw I had only 30 minutes left! Ack! Off to grab book 2

The Magic of Dragons

I enjoyed this book. The main character is the son of a very important war leader in the realm. His purpose for coming to the mountain is to learn about the dragons and magic. When he arrives, he realizes that that's why everyone comes to the mountains. It is a school of political gain for everyone. However, the leaders know it, and they use it to their own advantage. He meets a young woman there, and begins to feel a connection. They learn about the past of dragons, and she has a secret. She is closer to a dragon than anyone else could possibly know.

It's a tale of intrigue and adventure, as well as a nice spin of events at the end. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

The first person narration threw me off a bit. I like third person better, but especially when I'm listening to a book. It's hard for a narrator to have a distinct voice for internal thought and dialog.

They are not from Pern! Sweetness abounds

I love fantasy, most of my collection consists of some sci-fi, pulp, horror, and then the bulk is made up of fantasy. Dragons rule fantasy, just look at the number of films out there about dragons, and all the books about dragons. That is generally enough to turn me off from a book, if it is about dragons, that is. So few people get dragons right. Dragonslayer is one of the best movies I've ever seen with dragons, and Draonlance is perhaps the (the 1st three books) best set of novels I rever read about dragons. Occasionally, a good one slips in like Hood's Familiar Dragon trilogy.

Dragon God hits the mark. I will say I didn't expect a Young Adult book when I started listening, but since I listen while I drive both my kids and I got a pleasant surprise. DG has some great characters, and the plot sizzles. It is a fun ride and my youngest said that the monestary made him think of Hogwarts for dragons. I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but I get wherehe is coming from. The story could grow just like HP did.

Wiliams does a fine job narrating, and she drags you right into the action. For a first book in a series it sure makes you want more. May I have some more, please?

Great start to a new fantasy series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I thought this was a pretty good book. It is definitely geared towards a younger audience, but I thought it was still pretty good. I thought the narrator was good too. Tiffany Williams' voice was rich and dynamic and helped bring the story to life. I would have liked a little more background to some parts, like the dragons, but I'm sure there will be in future books in the series.

Dragons for YA

This book was a nice little adventure with some magic and dragons definitely built towards a younger audience but can easy be enjoyed and any age. If you like dragons or fantasy then it's worth a shot and Williams does a great job in this one.

A Dragon cult that is bad?

A few children that go to be trained as mages or scribes or knights. Except a few have secrets. How are they going to find out the mages secrets. I received this audio book for free at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

interesting

An interesting twist on the dragon rider story. Recommending to younger listeners.
It is heavy on the human side and very little on the dragon side. I would have likes a bit more background story on the dragons and how they came to be in that crater. A bit confused though... Are they captive? Why are the monks feeding them? Are they bad or are they good? Are they used by the abbott or are they using him?
I liked that Niell is given a chance to prove himself, how he grows in character and he turns out to be an honest, loyal young man despite the many injustices thrown his way from a young age. Finally befriending Char and then her dragon, then their rescue opens up opportunities for him. Left with many questions though which hopefully will be answered in the next book.

I liked Ms. Williams' voice she uses in the story-telling style that many young listeners would enjoy.
