About this listen

Dreams…everyone has them; some we remember, but most we'd rather forget. Robert Van Stark is a 14-year-old boy with a photographic memory who isn't able to forget his dreams or anything for that matter. His life was turned upside down when his father moved away, leaving him depressed, friendless, and struggling to find himself.

Robert's life became even more complicated when unexplained abilities developed in his mind, adding more obstacles to his list of adolescent challenges. Fortunately, Robert's science teacher stepped in to mentor him through the difficult times.

Strap yourself in tight as you take a ride with Robert on his emotional roller coaster that travels through dangerous, adventurous, life-altering events. When the rough ride finally comes to rest, you may agree with Robert, that acceptance, perseverance, love, and true friendship can mean the difference between life and death.

About the Author

I’m a career fire chief and a paramedic by trade, so I’ve been on the front lines of teen suicide. Dreaming to Live is my first book, and it was written to help reduce these tragic deaths. In West Michigan, we have seen an alarming increase in teen suicide. I’m hoping this audiobook and the next book I’m currently writing will help teach coping skills and general acceptance of all, especially the teens who are struggling with their sexual orientation.

Inspiring, funny, adventures, and moving

Dreaming To Live is highly recommended for young adult readers; however I enjoyed this heart felt novel and I’m over 50 years old.
The story’s fast pace plot kept me guessing what would happen next. This book is a great read for all teens because it’s focused on teen suicide prevention and learning how to be accepting of everyone. The LBGTQ friendly book is thought provoking and fun. I wish I would have had a book like this to read/listen to when I was a teenager going through life’s challenges.

Love, Love. Love this book!

Well written, and very emotionally captivating. The narrator did a great job conveying the well established message in this book. "It gets better" , "Be kind", "Mental health matters".
