About this listen

True love is worth fighting for!

My name is Connor Williams, and people say I’m crazy. But that’s not who I am. They also think I’m straight, mean, and dangerous. But that’s not who I am either. The stories people tell—all those legends they whisper at school—they don’t mean a thing. Only my mother and younger brother matter to me.

It's funny that I find myself wanting to stand up for someone else. David Henry, the cute bookish guy who always keeps to himself, is about to get his ass beat by a bunch of dudes bigger than him. I could look away, let him be one more causality of this cruel world, but that’s not who I am.

Kamikaze Boys, a Lambda Literary award-winning novel, is a story of love triumphant as two young men walk a perilous path in the hopes of saving each other.

Young love!

I liked this even thought the guys were very young. They did some bad things that they pay for but learn from along the way. There were some things that bothered me like the bullying. As a teacher this was hard to see ignored. But I know it happens in big schools.

Loved it!

I’ve purchased a lot of Jay bell’s books on audible and I have to say This one is one of my favorites if not my favorite one. I don’t get the criticism of the crime(s) that others referred to it’s not glorifying anything unnecessary so i don’t see why people were so upset. It’s a BOOK. Anyways like I said I enjoyed it.

Loved it

As a Jay Bell fan as of 2019, this was one of his books I heard good things about. I was introduced to Connor in Something Like Stories 1 Something Like Tonight and Kamikaze was on my list of books to read. My preference is Audio book and was elated when Bell announced Kamikaze was going to be on Audible.
This story of two outcast that find love is nothing new, but these two characters to me took this premise to a modern place where many of the LGBTQ community grew up in. I do believe that both characters were in the wrong in their revenge plots and I felt Bell did a good job showing the consequences of taking justice into your own hands. Even though Connor and David were the main characters, I felt my all time favorite was Gordon. Gordon stole the show for me and I laughed in every instance he was in the story.

Captivating narrative

Jay Bell writes another captivating story that was really hard to put down. You care about the two main characters almost instantly even though some of the decisions they made along the way were admittedly frustrating. While not giving away to the story, I will say that some of the plot lines could be triggering for some people. So pick up this title if you’re looking for a bit of a darker love story between two passionate characters who try to find a way to a world where they can be together, with many difficult odds against them.

I love this writer!

Really nice book! I was so happy at the begging when their love just started and the optimism and positivism through the book kept me going! I recommend it! :)

Good Story and enhanced by a great Performance

Empathized with the main characters. Felt the adversity they faced. My favorite by far of the Jay Bell's book's.

Simple. Predictable. Enjoyable.

Fell a little short in some of the overall story development. The character development between David and Connor sometimes felt rushed in some areas. He would create a nice, engaging narrative and abruptly go to something else. It's easy to get past, but in some of his other books, he took his time and put just the proper thought into it. I think STRAIGHT BOY was one where it had everything from the beginning to the middle and even the end. I'm sensing a pattern where if he focuses on a hot topic issue, a sacrifice is made in another area of the story; things feel started but not finished. If you read him, you will understand what I mean. Overall, I enjoyed the book because I like his stories. If you choose this one, don't look for anything mind-blowing. This could be one he just cranked out.

Awesome

The story was great and Kier Graves does a good job narrating it. Made the hours pass without notice.
