About this listen

Sent into exile once more, Don Rodrigo de Vivar has just Will Redbeard and two warriors for companions. Over the next years, he creates the legend of El Cid, defeating enemy after enemy. Fighting overwhelming odds, he succeeds every time until, at last, he has his fiefdom of Valencia.

This is the final chronicle in the series and details the last 18 years of the life of the man known as El Cid. Although this is the last in the series, it is a standalone book. Forget the film and listen to the reality of the man who was the greatest knight of his age - some would say, any age!

Incredibly enthralling series on El acid, Don Rodrigo de Vivar. I was minimally aware of Don Rodrigo’s accomplishments, but following listening to this series, it prompted me to research even further the life of this man. There are few people in the history of mankind whose influence changed the course of their people and history, “El CID” is one of those. Without his counsel, bravery, military mind, and understanding of man, the nation of Spain would have never emerged to be what it became to developing the West and Christianity. Such an influential presence should be revered for their accomplishments. He was a man of vision!

This series was ok, the first book was the best. First things I've read by this author. It isn't really about El Cid and the author does a bad job at character development, I think. The worst part of the story, and least believable, was the main characters "love" arc. Everything about El Cid was legendary, his prowess, his sword, his horse and especially his relationship with his wife...but this series does a significant disservice to a relationship that very much needs to be glorified, especially in our modern age. It unfortunately ruined the series for me.

"Love" story ruined it.
