About this listen

A hero’s journey begins in an exhilarating new series by Griff Hosker.

In 1335 the Black Death was just 13 years away from England, but there were other threats and dangers. Young John Hawkwood is forced to leave his home and seek a life in London. There he learns how to survive and, more importantly, how to fight. Leaving his life as an apprentice tailor he follows the army and King Edward to fight the Scots. He has a skill: he can not only use a bow, but he can use a sword and his mind. This is just the start for John Hawkwood, who will become - in the fullness of time - one of the greatest condottiere the world has ever seen, a man who, at the Battle of Castagnaro in 1387, shows the world that he was a great leader, too.

Algo de Historia y entretenimiento

The plot is too simple. There is no clear antagonist and you can count on things going right for the characters.

Well read, easy listen

The story is well written, though a tad slow at first it definitely picks up. My only complaint is the narrator talks a tad quiet and I’m hard of hearing so at times it was a struggle.

Career progression is credible, action -packed, yet he's human, with weaknesses and strengths. Narrator is excellent, easy to understand enunciation and different voices for different characters.

Excellent storyline

A solid foundation for a series of medieval warfare, told thru young Archer. Characters are developed well. Looking forward to next in series.

Gritty, great characters, and good story. When I want to read/listen to a sure bet, I pick up one of the many books by this author. John Hawkwood's story is immersed in England's longbow history. The narrator is excellent.

Another Great Series

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Great historical fiction always makes the fact and fiction hard to tell apart, and Crecy is no exception. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Fun, Fast Paced, Action Ride

Enjoyed this book! Starting the next in the series. Narration was excellent. Even if a book is really good, having a good narrator is crucial to the success of an audible book.
