About this listen

Destined to Die Young is the definitive examination of why the world lost Elvis Presley on August 16, 1977, when he was only 42 years old. Author Sally Hoedel has painstakingly researched the subject and offers factual and scientific data—plus never-before-published information she gained by interviewing people who personally knew Elvis—to support her claim that Elvis Presley was never going to live a long life.

In this well-documented book, Hoedel explores how prescription medication was only one aspect of his compromised health and did not ultimately cause his demise. She examines Elvis Presley—a son, husband, father, and devoted friend—while ploughing through the negative hype and legendary myths surrounding the man. Elvis’ downward spiral of health struggles is presented and, for the first time ever, it is revealed that he suffered from disease in nine of eleven bodily systems, five of which were present from birth. This book dispels the long-held theory that abuse of prescription drugs is what killed Elvis.

Destined to Die Young is for anyone who is curious to know the true story of one of the world’s most famous cultural icons. For longtime Elvis Presley fans, it provides answers to lingering questions surrounding his death. You may be surprised to learn that, based on Elvis Presley’s family history and the genes he was dealt, nothing could have saved the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

I have the physical book which was a fascinating read and explains so much about Elvis and his acute health issues. What could be better than as a recap, Unfortunately as Dr's should not treat there family members, the narrator definately should not have narrated her own book. Her narration was extremely was dreadful

Great insight .. however

The author did a great job of researching so many important details that bring to light a very complicated medical history that has too often been boiled down to short headlines. If you want to really know what happened to Elvis Presley, and the toll of his rise to fame, this is a good book. Unfortunately the audio sometimes fades and the author’s cadence is not terrific, but the content is most important and the book deserves a prominent place in Elvis history.

The definitive answer on Elvis’ life, death and biology

it's incredibly sad that such a good person, that took care of so many, has constantly been speculated about, and judged by so many, simply because they didn't have all of the information. it seems very unfair to me. it's a testament to who he was. He was human, he had pride, and he tried to not feel sorry for himself. He most likely would not have lived a very long life. But, the time he had on this earth, he gave so much to so many. He should not be forgotten for all he did, and treated as if he were nothing, by people who don't bother to learn the truth. He never called himself a King. His fans did. He helped change many things, along with many other people. He should not be forgotten, or made a joke out of. Thank you for your responsible research, and giving back the honor he deserves....

Finally, medical information.

There is always more to the story and this thoroughly researched book proves that. It is an unbiased view presented from a medical standpoint, far beyond what was known to the public, or even many around Elvis, at the time. It's shocking how many physical ailments he had, yet pushed himself for his family, friends and fans. This book tells his story through the years, starting well before he was born. I highly recommend reading this to get a more complete picture of the life and death of Elvis Presley, which is free on sensationalism.

The whole picture...

I am a life long huge Elvis fan and I learned so much about Elvis and his health struggles. Sally did an outstanding job with research and it flowed within the book. I had my own idea about what happened to him in his final moments and this book is the only one that ever shared my assumption. I wish everyone could read this book. Thank you Sally! I can’t wait to read Destined to Fly! TCB⚡️
