When Maren runs away from the threat of a forced marriage, the last place she expects to end up is the Malvagarian Palace, home to the enchanted gardens, a cursed prince, and a magical rose that traps her there. Crown Prince Briar isn’t pleased to be stuck with a troublesome guest, especially one as mischievous and curious as Maren. She, on the other hand, is determined to escape, but instead finds herself inconveniently falling in love with him. Despite her lack of beauty, feelings steadily blossom between her and the prince.
Their budding romance is soon threatened when sinister magic begins to eclipse the enchanted gardens, a darkness which quickly spreads not only to the kingdom, but to the king himself. In order to stop it, Briar and Maren will both be forced to make a heart-wrenching sacrifice, only to realize that the gardens’ requirements may prove too high a price.

Another great book from Camille Peters

This story has little llin common with the story of the Beastly man who most learn to love. Instead it is the story of a prince who is all to ready to love but when he finds it a curse hardens his heart against it.
Marrin the Beauty of the story has little self confidence and believes herself to be ugly. The true test of this story if if her fragile self worth can survive the man she loves suddenly turning on her and telling her all the things she previously believed about herself.
This is a slow build up definitely more on the Romance side of romantic fantasy, but the fantastical elements are creative and manage to give an old story new life. If you love fairy tales but are tired of every retelling sounding like a Disney movie, then this book, nay, this series is one that should be on your TBR shelf.
The narrator did a fantastic job of giving this story the emotion it deserved. She also does different voices for the characters.
A Tale as Old as Time made New.

Beauty and the Beast retelling. I truly enjoyed Briar from Reflection, and even he and Drake's continued tension from the previous book was improved. Briar is a gentleman (when he is not influenced by the curse), and I admired his love for both his people and his romantic interest. He is chivalrous. We need more chivalry in stories these days.
Another gem! Full of redemption and character growth.
