Publisher's summary

Princess Anidori-Kiladra of Kildenree was born with a word on her tongue, and a secret magic. Though she is raised in luxury, she is never quite comfortable with who she is, or what she is to become. Then she is sent on a journey to marry an unknown prince. The trip is difficult, and before it is finished all her expectations are overturned. Alone, friendless, stripped of her crown and her title, Ani must learn to make her own path in the world. Along the way, she just might learn to be a princess.

Bold in concept, stunning in execution, The Goose Girl is one of the most spectacular debut novels of recent years. Now more than four dozen actors bring it to thrilling new life in this unabridged audio edition—a recording that will delight those who already love the book, and enthrall those who have not yet discovered it.

Fun story, full-cast audio

I quite enjoyed the story, but full-cast audio isn't my thing apparently, and it distracted me somewhat. They did a fine job; I just didn't like it much, so 3 stars (OK) for the audio, four (really liked it) for the story, and a solid 4 overall because the tellers probably won't bother most.

it's great .

It's good for kids 8 to 13. it's a very fun book that really gets the story of a princess but doesn't make it to girly. it's about a princess that just doesn't like to being a princess. boys and girls mostly girls though

A Story heard before

The story was wonderfully done by the cast. Heart pounding adventure that was good from start to finish. I truly enjoyed this read.

I absolutely loved it. It is my most favorite book that Shannon Hale writes! I loved what Isi discovered about the strength inside herself.

A Fairytale for Grownups

As a 58 year-old woman, I'm not a big fan of most the books targeted for the YA audience. I am exhausted by naive young love as a theme. This book is an exception. The main story line is less about falling in love and happily ever after and more about the protagonist's identity development and growth as a social advocate. I enjoyed the full-cast reading, although I didn't notice much distinction among the male villain voices. I wasn't familiar with the Goose Girl mythology, so I greatly appreciated the author's narrated commentary.

Fun with Sass

I enjoyed listening to this book. I enjoyed the full cast performance and different voices. Loved the animals and how they are portrayed. As animal owners know, they all have their own personality. I felt there was this action throughout the story to keep young and old interested.

I know this story is meant for middle grade. Knowing that I am no longer in that age group some of the characters and their conversations seemed even younger than that group. But, that is a personal opinion and overall I still enjoyed it. I am going to continue listening to the series. There is some very beautiful writing and the imagery is lovely and the maid is very fun and unique. I also lived how it all came together. I an said I didn't read this series with my nieces.

Lovely, imaginative tale for all ages

I loved Shannon Hale’s rendition of the classic fairy tale. The likable protagonist overcomes great obstacles that transform her into a better person and ruler. Well done!
