About this listen
Long appreciated as a vacation destination, the area around the Yucatan Peninsula is a playground for conservationists and lovers of the sea. Only in the past 40 years has the small island of Isla Mujeres been discovered as one of the finest examples of the best of Mexican fun and hospitality.
Enrique Lima has been a part of the development of Isla Mujeres all his life. His father, Jose de Jesus Lima, known as Forjador (creator/architect) de Isla Mujeres was an early developer of nearby Cancun. He left that place in the 1950s to begin the expansion of nearby Isla Mujeres.
The beginning of construction of Club de Yachtes as the first marina on the island began in the 1960s. Once Isla Mujeres was discovered as having the most abundant sail fishery, arguably anywhere in the world, sports fishermen beat a path to its doorstep. As Enrique’s Lima’s hospitality gained recognition throughout the recreational sports fishing world, his marina became known as Enrique’s Dock. It has been the site of some of the greatest fish stories, world record catches, and visitation by the biggest names in sports fishing.
This book tells the story of that history, and tales of many of the men and women who contributed to it along the way. Herein is a sketch of people who have helped to develop the marina and the island, and the events that have taken place that shape its reputation as a vacation paradise.
