Scaron

I go out on a hunting expedition and what do I return with? An alien female. I’d toss her out, but…she’s absurdly appealing to me. The longer I allow her to live on my ship, the less I want to kill her. With a looming showdown against our enemy to prepare for, the last thing I need is a female distracting me, but I cannot stay away and I would kill to protect her.

Wyn

I’m stranded on this planet and captured by aliens who are battling against enemies that want to kill them for some healing liquid their living ship produces. How did I go from living a quiet life as a medical doctor to this? To top it off, the leader of my captors is a red-eyed, dagger-wielding male with a smirk that makes my knees weak and a kiss that sets me on fire. Is he my enemy or the best thing to ever strut into my life?

When a terrible attack calls my medical skills into use, Scaron and I must work together to save the lives of his people and defend against an enemy that shocks me to my core. Humans know this planet better than I thought and it will take a united front of allies—who I thought were dead—to escape with our lives.

Ensnared by the Alien Lord is book six in the Lords of Destra series. Each is a complete story with no cliffhangers, nor cheating, and guaranteed consent and happy endings.

3.5 Stars

Ensnared by the Alien Lord is book 6 in the Lords of Destra series. This is the final book in the series and we see the overall story resolve for all 7 of the couples. This book is about 36-year-old, human, doctor, Wyn, and Destran Lord, Scaron. Initially, when Scaron found Wyn, he took her prisoner and put her in a cage thinking she might be working with the enemy. That was different from how the other 6 couples met and bonded. Scaron’s sola is also different from the others in that his is full of ex-criminals. I didn’t enjoy Scaron’s sola and people as much as I did the others. I liked seeing how everyone finally came together and the solas were able to reunite. I loved the surprise help they got. This series was really fun. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for easy reads/listens. I’m sure I will listen to the whole series again in the future. As for the narration, the same narrators read all 7 of the books (0.5 -6 – 0.5 is included at the end of book 1) and I found that the male narrator was consistently really good with all of the characters that he voiced. The female was good at voicing the female main characters but wasn’t as good with her voices for the male main characters. In this book, I struggled with the female narrator voicing Scaron as carefree and easy going as he was far from that. Overall, the narration is pretty solid though. This series is my first experience with this author. I am looking forward to trying out her other series’ too. Overall, I give Ensnared by the Alien Lord 3.5 stars. I give the series overall 4.5 stars.

Slightly better than meh

I've read/listened to this whole series and it's not bad. It's a bit simplistic, but there's unique world building and some okay (if not a little threadbare) plots.

Setup: Scaron, a Lord of Destra is out with a hunting party when he finds our mfc Wyn half naked and starving. Her ship has gone down and her escape pod has crashed on an alien planet. He takes her (as a prisoner) to his Sola - his symbiont ship - and she (the ship's pronoun) promptly downloads his brain with the English language. Great, I thought. No stupid barriers to love.

Scaron is fascinated by English words and inflections, and quizzes the mfc as to why she has "yellow" hair but it’s also called blonde. And she's like [paraphrasing her ditz voice] "i dunno??? We also call red haired people redheads or gingers, and brown haired people brunettes, but black haired people are just black haired people." Am I being prickly or is this woman shItting me? 85% of the world has black hair. The LEAST this character could've done was make a flip comment about unfair etymology, or rightly suggest that there's racial bias hidden in our linguistics. She's an MD! She’s supposed to be intelligent.

Later our mfc finds out that an evil earth corporation is planning a genocide (on the Destrans) to obtain their natural resource (Lami). and she literally DROPS TO HER KNEES in shock and despair. LMAO. Has this author never heard of De Beers and the blood diamonds of Sierra Leone, or the Ford Co and its relationship with the Third Reich during the Holocaust, or even Monsanto and its franken-crops? Corporations love mass murder. I don't care what century this book takes place in, the mfc would have to be brain damaged to have that kind of blind faith in a corporation. The reader should've gotten a heads up that something drastic had happened, like all previously recorded human history had been lost, or humankind had evolved into saints. Instead of making an educated woman into a total idiot.

As for the rest of the book, it was rushed. The author tried to give the couple their full formulaic ‘desert island’ style love story. But I think she forgot she had an entire series to close off (including reuniting all the Solas, fighting a Bracken/Human war, and creating an HEA for an ENTIRE SPECIES). This book was the same meagre 6 hours as the other books and it wasn't enough.

Ok

I found it hard to stay focused; Elle’s voice needed a bit pepping up, her affect was so flat and soft, needed a fire lit under it. The storyline was ok. Tor’s narration was pretty good.
