Publisher's summary

Two-thirds of the American population are overweight or obese and suffering from chronic diseases directly related to our lifestyle choices.

We live in a healthcare system that goes for quick fixes and medications instead of long-term solutions to solve problems. With all the information out there on fad diets and pills to quickly get to your goal of losing weight, we have realized that your health and wellness doesn’t come with an owner's manual.

No matter how different our genes or life experiences may be, or how differently our plastic brains are wired by our experience, we have to deal with our immediate reality. And this is why this book applies to almost everyone.

Dr. Torres specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with spine-related pain syndromes and osteoarthritis of multiple joints. He has authored and co-authored more than six books and multiple articles published in various medical journals. He has also participated in several clinical research studies. Dr.Torres is also the President and Medical Director of The Florida Spine Institute Wellness Program. As a trained age-management physician, he works with patients to prevent age-related diseases by optimizing health and longevity.

This book was sparked by Dr. Torres' agony as a teenager growing up being overweight. He felt a strong desire to understand how we can reprogram our internal operating system in order to obtain long-lasting results without the need for restrictive and complicated diets.

Genes only function when they are activated or expressed. What determines whether the obesity gene is activated comes down to our choices, diet and exercise being major influencers.

We will explore whether we can turn the disease switch on or off by supplementing diet, minimizing stress, or giving epigenetically relevant pro-drugs or supplements. The hope is that we can permanently flip the system back to lean in one shot.

Understanding more about the epigenetics underlying obesity could help to introduce preventions based on lifestyle changes which may be able to modify our epigenetic marks and improve health.
