Publisher's summary

She never thought to find love. He never thought to keep it.

Sold to whoremasters by her own husband, Tysha flees into the night with pursuers hot on her trail. For once in her life, the gods show mercy and deliver her to Erik the Tempered, a man as wild as he is noble. With him, Tysha’s long-dormant heart awakens, helplessly drawn to the quiet, enigmatic man who seems content to keep his distance.

Obligated to choose a bride for himself, Erik has spent weeks in half-hearted pursuit of a woman. Any woman will do, so long as he can easily say good-bye. However, fate brings him an unexpected bride, as nervous as she is lovely. With each passing day, Erik realizes his timid bride conceals the heart of a lion and finds it harder to turn from her sweet touch and haunting green eyes. But loving her comes with a great price: his family, his home, his purpose. Soon, Erik and Tysha will discover both the reward and cost of unconditional love.

This novel plays on the trope of abduction. While Dokiri men won’t let anything keep them from the woman they love, even that woman herself, all love scenes between the hero and heroine are consensual.

Both Exciting And Moving

These Dokiri brides stories are so well written. Ms Day has a strong command of her craft and is a skilled and loving storyteller. The world building is superb and so vivid I can feel the cold air and the rugged terrain. I especially like this story that focuses on the second oldest brother Erik and his “hamma” Tysha. I loved Tysha’s character arc so much because just about any reader can see themselves in her. Her insecurities and underestimation of herself are all too real and human.
Erik as well had his struggles but they help each other grow and develop as people and tribe members.
Of course, this story had the perfect narrator in Shane East who always slays everything he voices. His characterizations are always on point.

Well done!

I loved this one! I listened to it as I made my rounds visiting my patients in their homes. Even if it was a 10 minute drive between houses, I listened for that 10 minutes. It was just that good. I loved Shane East’s narration. As always, it was an enjoyable experience.

Excellence unleashed!

Another must read/listen!
Denali Day has again outdone herself. Great story, awesome writing, perfect narration (Shane East....yes!), and overall a "Wonderful" book! Not to mention....again...Shane East, his narration and character voices cannot be beat.
The characters and each of their stories keeps you engrossed, and you can't wait to get to the next book to see what happens next. The first book gave us a peek into the lives of the Dokiri, which was a great build up of characters. I enjoyed getting to know each of them and appreciate that they were included into this second book. The main characters are the highlight, but all of the characters play an important part and you get to see their development growing.

Starting book 3 today! Can't wait to get through this series and I know I won't want them to end.

Just what I was looking for

I have been listening to a lot of audible at work. I prefer romance but after listening to many books by popular authors it seems as though no one could leave sex scenes to the imagination of the listener. That was always my favorite part of reading. My own imagination playing the story like a movie. This series has done just that! Enough delay to push my imagination but not so much as to stunt it.
