About this listen

Troy, with his irrational fears, is the least likely person to lead a war. But that doesn't mean he can escape his destiny.

A trip to New Orleans with his friends turns deadly when aliens called Pirans kidnap him. A perfect doppelganger for their dead general Tohmas, Troy is thrust into the front lines of battle against Reptauran invaders. To do that, the Piran leaders hatch a plan to convince their own that "Tohmas" rose from the dead and will lead them to victory.

As it turns out, the Piran leaders aren’t totally wrong. Tohmas isn't quite gone - and his lingering essence has found Troy a suitable host. Troy must fight with everything he's got to save both Pira and Earth, the Reptaurans' next likely target. As he fights to maintain control of his own destiny, Troy knows that no matter the outcome, his life will never be the same.

In some aspects of this book it is extremely fast pace but there is important information that needs to be known and I understand trying to keep a reader hooked that being sad there is usually information that eludes to the truth. It has to much background drama to keep my interest.

I read 'Essence: Septima' as an ebook and absolutely loved it. Hearing it in audiobook format the second time around; it's just as awesome! And the narrator did an amazing job. They were very articulate and clear, relaying proper range of emotion and tone throughout. The voices the characters were given were just as I had imagined when reading the ebook and were unique enough that I could tell which character was speaking, even when it had not been pointed out beforehand. The story itself is expertly written. With never a dull moment, it's an intense scifi plotline with a great premise that grows incredibly more intriguing as the story continues. Drama, action, mystery, suspense, romance...definitely a highly recommend book!

Awesome Story with Amazing Narration!

This is going to be an excellent tv series!

The story and characters are trite and shallow and the narrator has a crazy way of pronouncing words. Maybe this is intended for teens except the near raffle scene is too adult for them. As for the narrator, words like tinse, sinseless, cinter, adrINaline, lingthwise, slinder, timple, trimble, and frinds were consistently off.
Every single 'en' was pronounced as 'in'. So annoying! I hate to not finish a book but I couldn't get past the first 90 minutes.

I can't go on.

I struggled to finish this. There is so much graphic and sometimes violent sex bordering on rape. I disliked almost all the characters. The evil bad guys weren't the Reptarians but each other.

A main character I hated from the start

This will suit some people, who totally think this shit happens IRL or in some fantasy universe... good luck to them!

Not my style, YA HAREM series...

To fast paced. the concept is good but the author didn't deliver. it feels rushed and way to much sex. it almost seems like one of those cheesy soft porn on Cinemax after dark.

eh

the author wrote the character as a brilliant idiot. The author writes the guy as smart but overlooking the an obvious situation. He writes the obvious situation to the reader so often and long per chapter you want to vomit.

2nd, the fight scenes are written very poorly. The description of moves these grand masters execute are silly. The military fight scenes also very poorly choreographed... clearly no military research or experience.

The wishy-washy desires of the main character changes constantly. the while plot wanders on a predictable path. the multiple layers of the plot are both predictable and then you wonder how none of the other characters see the simple ruse being perpetrated against them. just not believable

can't recommend you pay for this. if you have audible membership you'd be enduring some poorly written material.

1 star for story, 2 stars overall... reason?

Two hours left and I couldn’t finish it. Did not care for the main character Tomas. Seems he cannot help wanting and/or having sex with nearly every female in the book. The plot itself was decent and the narrator was fine. It just wasn’t a good fit for me.

Feels geared toward teens.
