Publisher's summary

Detective Constable Evan Evans and his new bride, Bronwen, are settling into married life in their little cottage above the village of Llanfair when they meet the daughter of one of the village's newest families, a 16-year-old Pakistani girl named Jamila. Bronwen and Jamila are becoming good friends when Jamila finds out from her parents that they have arranged a marriage for her back in Pakistan. Evans tries to convince her family not to enforce the custom, arguing that Jamila is a normal Welsh teenager, but just as the tensions increase, the girl suddenly vanishes. Bronwen is distraught, but there's no trace of her.

At work, Evans is investigating the murder of a man shot to death through the open window of his home while eating breakfast. After the man's wife is jailed as a suspect, a second man is killed - and then a third - and Evans and his team are on the hunt for a serial killer. But they can't seem to find any connections between the three men....

In the surprising climax of Edgar Award finalist Rhys Bowen's 10th Constable Evans mystery, Evans risks everything to solve the murders and discover what happened to Jamila. All in all, the novel is a triumph for fans of Bowen's acclaimed Evans series and a wonderful discovery for new listeners.

Probably my least favorite in the series

Good story overall, I just found Bronwyn extremely irritating. Her portrayal caused the low stars.

Good story line. Easy to listen

Continuation of the Evan Evans story
Easy to follow story without too much sex or violence, but enough to make it believable

Love Constable Evans

This was not my favorite of the books. I miss the stories of the village and Bronwen. For the last book in the series I feel we are left with so much more that could be written.

Love this series

Here’s to Rhys Bowen for her characters and her sense of humor. Here’s to Roger Clark for bringing it all to life. He’s a master at Welch pronunciation and making it clear, without changing his tone, as to who is talking. I hope we haven’t heard the last of Constable Evans and his adventures in a small town where big things happen.

Resigned.

Couldn't put it down. Well done. A unique and interesting twist to the plot, that's the whole point, isn't it?

A Serial Killer and a Pakistani Girl

Book Ten and Constable Evans and Bronwen are married now. 🥰 As they settle into their little cottage in the mountains of Llanfair ,they become acquainted with a neighboring family from Pakistan. Bronwen becomes good friends with the sixteen-year-old daughter, Jamila. It isn't long until Jamila's parents begin trying to force her into an arranged marriage. Saddened by this, Constable Evans tries to convince the parents that Jamila is now a normal Welsh teen and that it would be a mistake to force her into marriage. In the meantime, Constable Evans is dealing with the murder of three men in the village. Upon investigation Evans cannot find anything in common with the three murdered men. Evans has a full plate already, then Jamila disappears without a trace. Excellent entry into the series.
