About this listen

The Handmaid's Tale meets Scythe in this gripping new dystopian trilogy written by UK best-selling authors Giovanna and Tom Fletcher.

She survived against all odds. The first girl born in 50 years. They called her EVE.

On the first day, no one really noticed. All those babies wrapped in blue blankets - not a pink one in sight. On the third day, people were scared - a statistic-defying abundance of blue. Not just entire hospitals, not only entire countries, but the entire world. Boys. Only boys.

Until Eve. The only girl born in 50 years. The savior of mankind. Kept protected, towering above a ruined world under a glass dome of safety until she is ready to renew the human race.

But when the time comes to find a suitor, Eve and Bram - a young man whose job is to prepare Eve for this moment - begin to question the plan they've known all along. Eve doesn't only want safety, and she doesn't only want protection. She wants the truth. She wants freedom.

Critic reviews

"Fast paced action...promising start to a new trilogy." (BCCB)

"Part meditation on reproductive rights, part dystopian thriller, the novel casts a wide web of intrigue, deception, and hope. Chapters alternate between Eve’s and Bram’s perspectives, fruitfully intertwining into a heady page-turner.... An enthralling start to a trilogy." (Kirkus Reviews)

Love!

I adore this book. It’s a little juvenile but so wholesome and sweet while being interesting enough to keep my attention. Loved it

Enjoyed

Waiting for next book. Just wish it would have been a true dual narration . Male read male parts etc . I did enjoy narrators.

Fascinating

Very entertaining. It had me drawn in from the very first chapter. I completed it in less than 2 days because I couldn't stop listening. I wish they had book 2 on here, but I guess I'll have to find it elsewhere; because I can't wait to see what happens next! If you like the Hunger Games, then you'll definitely like this as well.

Record book 2!

Great story - not too far fetched into any sci-fi direction and even a rumbling love story driving the excitement forward. Narrators were perfect.

Excellent reading of a bad story

Even by YA standards, this isn’t great. So many Romeo and Juliet tropes. Very unfortunate fat jokes and fat shaming of a character. A character very conveniently becomes the leader of a group of hostile characters with hardly any difficulty or pushback. A deus ex machina device reveals the secret location of a long lost character thought to be dead, with no explanation as to how they know exactly where the secret location is. Eve is a damsel in distress pining for a strong boy, and no matter how hard they try to make her sound strong and tough, she remains weak and helpless and in need of rescue. Story ends with a cliffhanger and I will not be listening to the rest of the series.
