About this listen

Beauty has been nothing but a curse to Penelope Snow. When she becomes a personal maid for a famous actress whose troupe is leaving Chicago to tour the West, she hides her figure beneath shapeless dresses and keeps her head down. But she still manages to attract the wrong attention, leaving her prospects in tatters—and her jealous mistress plotting her demise.

After his brother lost his life over a woman, Texas ranger Titus Kingsley has learned to expect the worst from women and is rarely disappointed. So when a young woman found in suspicious circumstances takes up residence with the seven old drovers living at his grandfather's ranch, Titus is determined to keep a close eye on her.

With a promotion hanging in the balance, Titus is assigned to investigate a robbery case tied to Penelope's acting troupe. The evidence points to her guilt, but Titus's heart divines a different truth—one that might just get Penelope killed.

An enchanting Western take on the classic Snow White fairy tale, Fairest of Heart will sweep you away from once upon a time to happily ever after.

I loved this book! It is so well written, and the story is narrated beautifully. Thank you so much! I love Penelope and her kind and giving character. Narcissa makes an excellent villain, and gives a lot of depth to the story and keeps the reader wondering what will happen next. The parallel of the story with Snow White, and the seven dwarfs is so clever and entertaining, Kate Wittmeyer, you are a wonderful writer! What a fantastic book!

I ordered this with some skepticism about the familiar theme; however, I was pleasantly surprised how the author was able to weave the classic elements into a believable and entertaining western story. I always enjoy Barbara’s narration, and this was no exception. Great book!!

It was difficult to imagine putting the Snow White tale into old time Texas, but Karen Witemeyer did it beautifully. There were obvious nods to poisoned apples, magic mirrors and seven old men, but her story firmly stands in its own feet.

Narcissa is an excellent vain and manipulative character. Her villainy is palpable and I even started to feel bad for her underling because of how cruel she was to him. Well-written inner monologue showcases the level of her deception and selfishness.

I like how Titus and Penny had a lot of interactions and misunderstandings as he tried to solve the thefts.

Barbara McCulloh's narration was spot on a usual. Her varying voices for characters of fantastic, as well as the emotion evoked through the subtext of the interactions of the characters.

Fun revamp of a classic

A wonderful retelling of Snow White. It is fun to guess who was supposed to be who by their names. even though you already know the structure of the story it isn't boring and there are still surprises in it.

witty and sweet
