About this listen

After breaking off her engagement, 30-something Andi Cutrone yields New England to her ex and flees home to Long Island. There, she devotes her time to teaching in the writing program at Brooklyn University and overanalyzing her past failed relationships. But then she meets Devin, a male escort whose client list seems to include at least half of the accomplished women she knows. He is handsome, charismatic, and absolutely out of her league, but she can’t deny he has a certain…something. And so Andi makes him a proposition: If he will teach her to shed her sexual inhibitions, she will teach him to be a writer. He agrees, and together they embark upon an intense partnership that proves to be every bit as instructive as it is arousing.

For in the midst of lessons in rhetorical theory and foreplay, Andi and Devin delve into deeper questions about truth, beauty, and self, stripping away the emotional walls each has built up. Smart, witty, and introspective, Faking It is an engrossing novel about two people discovering their authentic selves.

Roller coaster story

Some parts of the story I absolutely loved.... but others I really didn’t like at all so it was a rollercoster story for me.
And I still can’t figure out what I think about the ending. I want to like it, but I think deep down it wasn’t the ending I wanted.

NOT A ROMANCE

This book was decent up until about half way through. Then it went bad. If you are looking for a romance DON'T get this book. If you are looking for a story that will leave you dissatisfied then this is the book for you.

Hmmm…

Because it was a free listen, I listened. The narrator or did not put me to sleep however very monotone even with the attempts and differentiating between Boston and NY accents.

Storyline: interesting and different however the main character was so damn whiny I wanted to stop the book by chapter 5 but because I don’t like not completing a book and I pressed on. This book did not truly ‘per up’ in my opinion until chapter 18 (yes I’m that person who hates to give up!).

Would I recommend?: nah not really.

However I see there is a part 2 of this protagonist and it sounds interesting. Am I a glutton for punishment? Maybe.

Really a 2.5

The ending was good but took too long to get there. There was too much English writing and teaching details. There was no sex, though it was alluded to. And it took too long for everything. Someone else might say that the author really developed the characters and the main relationship, which would be true. But I still believe that it was more wordy than it had to be, a bit drawn out. Finally I ended up fast forwarding it about 2 hours from the ending. I will not be seeking this author again. Though I liked the dry humor in the book very much and liked some of the dialogue but not enough to drudge through too many unnecessary details once again. The narrator was fine.

wonderful

I got this book on sale and probably would have never looked twice at it but after I started listen to I have to admit I truly enjoyed it. The main characters were great and the author’s style of writing is very refreshing to me. It’s a nice change from what I normally listen to. This book is about an insure woman who want to learn to feel sexy in her own skin. She’s introduced to a popular male escort who teaches her to let lose. There is a lot more to this story that I can’t tell without giving everything away. I think this book was great and I would listen to it again.

Love Story for the More Mature

I first read this book on my Kindle and once I found it available at Audible, I wanted to listen too. I am not a young person, but I enjoy a good romance. It is nice to have one about people born before 1980. I think the richness of their life experiences adds to the richness of the character development. I loved the addition of the details on composition, rhetoric and art history. It is a painless way to learn a little something and was important to the development of these characters. This is not your typical romance novel, but it satisfies the urge to read one.
