Good story once I sped up the reader

I almost never change the speed but the reader sounded normal at 1.2 or 1.3 and like an incredibly slow grandmother reading to a baby at 1.0.

Solid Performance

This audiobook is like a reminder of being at a family reunion and the "elders" are telling their tales/stories. The voices are very convincing and the overall concept is excellent.

Great short stories; the narrator's annoyed me

This book is a collection of short stories that follow Shange and Mijoga, a goddess and the human she fell in love with, after they have been turned into a mortal and a lion, respectively, as punishment. They travel throughout the land of East Africa hoping to earn the opportunity to live together as humans.

Milton Davis did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life through the stories. I listened to the audiobook version and through I greatly enjoyed the stories, I did not like the narrator, Darla Middlebrook. Her voice got on my nerves and, unfortunately, that made it easier for me to lose focus, which then meant I had to listen to parts over again and suffer through more of her voice. Should I choose to revisit this book in the future - and the stories were good enough that I want to - I will definitely be reading the ebook as opposed to listening to the audiobook.

A great African fantasy/fable

Fallen is an excellently written sword and sorcery, fantasy story in an African setting. The several self contained stories of Shange and Mijoga read like African fables filled with gods and spirits, warriors and sorcerers, love and hate, loyalty and treachery. A really big plus for me is that the narrator did such a fantastic job. I really had a good time with this one. I highly recommend.

African Fantasy

Great legends come to life in this book or good vs. evil in East Africa. A Spirit has fallen for the love of a human man. They both pay the price and must redeem themselves in the eyes of the gods. Well-written and compelling.

Classic Sword and Soul!

Really enjoyed the story of Shange and Mijoga, the star crossed lovers living their punishment from the gods together in East Africa. Without giving any spoilers away, we get to see them interact with one of Davis' most popular characters in one chapter. Definitely has that old school Sword and Sorcery vibe that I've loved way back in the Daw books era in the 70s and 80s with real hand to hand combat and interesting magic. Looking forward to seeing the Author's other works brought to audio as well.

Hard to listen

A poor performance locked what would've been a great story behind an impassable door. I should have read the other reviews!
