Warring kingdoms. Ancient blades. Dragonriders and godlings. A growing evil that threatens to destroy the world. Don’t miss the highly anticipated follow-up series to the number one Amazon best-selling saga, The Fatemarked Epic.
Infused with magic, shadows and starlight, the powerful godblades were believed to be lost nearly half a millennia ago, when the Godswar ended. Now, however, one has been found by the unlikeliest of wielders: Sampson Gaard, a blind but ambitious prince with something to prove.
The only question is whether he controls the blade or the blade him. With an insidious evil lurking in the shadows, the answer may very well determine the fate of all Kingfall.
The Kingfall Histories takes place on a different continent in the same world as The Fatemarked Epic. Fans of The Fatemarked Epic, The Stormlight Archives and Legends of the First Empire will fall in love with the world of Kingfall.

I enjoyed the narrator who brought the scenes to life. This is my first David Estes novel, but definitely not my last. Well worth the credit spent! I can't wait for book 2 of Kingfall histories!
An epic tale with DRAGONS!

Estes included a neuro-diverse character in Fatemarked (who makes a cameo here in Kingfall, decades later.) Kingfall boasts a blind character. This idea of non-traditional or disabled characters in an epic fantasy was fascinating to me! And these are not the only two examples!
The different lands/continents of Kingfall are quite varied in landscape, biome and culture. The process by which these varied peoples gets to know one another is always a fascinating journey through real prejudices. Their ability to often come to accept, understand, and, sometimes, even love, others can teach us all a lot!
I, for one, do not feel these books are too long. There's a lot going on! And the incomparable Tim Gerard Reynolds could read a telephone book and make it sound interesting! When I find a story that I enjoy THIS much, I want it to go on and on! I don't want it to end! I sincerely hope that we have not seen the last epic fantasy from David Estes! And I cannot wait to continue The Kingfall Histories ... downloading Dragonfall NOW!

As with many epic fantasies, book 1 of Estes' series plunges the reader into a world of despair and evil, following a series of characters on a yet unknown quest, as they struggle to survive against all possible odds. A complex and long story (Close to 30 hours of narration) with multiple plot lines and characters spread across an entire kingdom, the plot is filled with greedy Kings and evil characters willing to do anything for more power.
While I ultimately enjoyed the read, Estes fails to infuse his writing or the characters with any sense of humor or relief, and the constant despair and unending corruption and evil of the story dragged at me such that I had to push myself to keep reading until the end. I listened to the audio version, and Tim Gerard Reynolds's narration was outstanding as always. I intend to continue with the series and I am going to search the web for a map of the world.
