About this listen

Lady Adelaide Compton had prepared herself to say good-bye forever to Detective Inspector Devenand Hunter. It would be a welcome relief not to get mixed up in any more murders, even if it meant never working alongside the handsome detective again...wouldn't it?

But then Addie's prim and proper mother, Constance, the Dowager Marchioness of Broughton, is accused of murdering her secret lover, and there can't be enough gentlemen detectives on hand to find the truth. The dead Duke of Rufford appeared to lead a blameless life, but appearances can be deceiving. And unless Addie and Dev work together, Constance will hang - which is no one's idea of a happy ending.

Meh...the first three were better

The narrator as usual, was excellent. Her voices were great, her pronunciations were flawless, it was easy to differentiate the different characters, even the accents worked (except the American; she should practice a bit more with that), but it was still hard to like this story as much as the first three books. It seemed like the author just wanted to wrap everything up with a neat ribbon. And it just didn't work. And then the epilogues... I don't think how that's how their stories would have "played out" had the book continued. Absolutely finish the series; just don't expect the same sharp story and clever writing you got from the first three Lady Addie books.

easy listening

I enjoyed all four of the Lady Adelaide mysteries, yet was delighted the author wrapped the romantic threads up so quickly at the conclusion of this book. Plus, the narration was very good! Time to find another "cozy" series to listen to while quilting!

A series well done!

I fully enjoyed all of the books in this series and am a bit sad to see it end. A true pleasure.

Absolutely Boring

What a long, drawn out story! The ghost aspect could’ve been utilized much better. Instead, the predominant undercurrent was a developing romance between the heroine and the detective. The ghost wound up being relegated to the aspect of a walk-on character and was rather ridiculous. All-in-all, a waste of time and money.

Sort of silly but ok

This lightweight but mystery does not quite make it as cozy British fare. It does include a ghost , a few lords and ladies and the clothing and cars of the 1920s. Good choice for a car or plane trip. A plus: the author kindly resolves all relationships to the reader’s satisfaction

Completely Disappointed

A complete waste of time. I had enjoyed previous books in the series and was looking forward to this.
Not only was it dull I began to dislike the main character. She was so vapid it became hard to believe she would hold anyone’s interest.
More mystery suspense and romance could be found in listening to someone read a fast food menu.
