About this listen
A huge fan of Jane Austen, Danielle hopes to find her own Mr. Darcy when she leaves Colorado to attend art school in London. Of course she knows it's silly to wish for that, naive even. But she's met enough males who lacked respect for women, a growing trend it seemed. And at 19...well... However, on only her second night there she gets lost and is threatened by a stalker who proves to be immune to her martial-arts training. Before she is completely overpowered, she is then saved by Ethan Deveroux.
While Danielle does find the romance she seeks in Ethan, he's no Mr. Darcy. Her hero is held by a spell which fractures their chance at a happy ending. During the day Ethan is closer to mortal than immortal and can date her like any other man. Yet, as the sun sets, the powerful magic of an ancient curse returns and the evil of that spell is revealed. When that magic begins, Danielle's fairy-tale romance ends because Ethan Deveroux is a vampire.

Story
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

A wonderful YA novel
If you could sum up Fateful in three words, what would they be?
Imaginative, Creative, Youthful
What other book might you compare Fateful to and why?
This book was very much like Twilight. The story is about humans, with vampires. The characters are very strong, like in Twilight. And, both stories are very visual.
What about Tristan Hunt’s performance did you like?
I think that she kept the story moving, and did a fine job with each character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No

Beautiful and Engaging Vampire Romance!
What did you love best about Fateful?
I fell in love with the characters from this series from the beginning. Danielle was a girl that was multi-dimensional and fun, tough, yet sweet. Ethan was a man that was flawed and cursed by something out of his control, but totally a gentleman and totally lovable. Their chemistry together was magic.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fateful?
There were so many moments in this book that made me laugh, or made my heart melt. I love how Ethan cooks for her. That to me is a man worth keeping! :) I think some of my favourite moments are the quiet moments between the two main characters. There's something so sweet and peaceful about their romance, and their time together when all of the other characters are kind of waiting in the wings, so to speak. I loved those moments because they were the most tender, and really allowed the characters to shine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!
Any additional comments?
I love that the romance in this book is sweet, but not explicit. I love the character building, and all of the different fantasy characters like werewolves, vampires, and fairies. And I LOVE the settings in this book. They completely pull you in, and make you feel like you are part of the story. Such a beautiful book, and a beautiful series.

knock off of twilight but cheesier
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I honestly struggled with the narrator, he made Danielle sound so pathetic at times- or maybe it was how the author wrote her. She is supposed to be a powerful and strong girl yet she is always passive and weak when she speaks.
He (Tristan Hunt) was also very inconsistent with her and Ethan's voices in their conversations, he would start with the original version of how he narrated them then switch to this weird I'm not even trying to narrate the book. It made listening hard to do. I just wanted the book to end. A lot of the book could have been cut out because they kept repeating large portions of it just to make it cheesier, and I swear they just stole a lot of this from Stephanie Meyer's Twilight.
Would you be willing to try another one of Tristan Hunt’s performances?
Nope!
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
doubtful

Entertaining and delightful read
Would you consider the audio edition of Fateful to be better than the print version?
I read the book and listened to the audio version as well. I loved how the narrators voice drew you in and made you feel as if you were truly inside the story.
What did you like best about this story?
It was creative. I loved all of the magical elements of this story, including the whimsical. I can't wait to finish the series to see what other delicious treats the author has in store.
Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the scene when Ethan took Danielle to see the fairies.
Any additional comments?
This was a great start to a fascinating and creative series. The author did a fantastic job of creating a world full of intrigue, romance, and adventure.

One of my Favorite Books!
Would you listen to Fateful again? Why?
Yes, of course I would. It's so romantic, and the narrator does a great job!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I didn't have a favorite character, I liked them all for different reasons. I liked Danielle, the main character, because she's really girly like me, but she's also strong and independent. And Ethan is a total gentleman. And Max is an awesome medieval knight, and Sophia loves to cook...I could go on and on.
What does Tristan Hunt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Tristan brings emotion to the story. I love reading the book, but having a real person narrate the story really brings it to life. It makes it a lot more exciting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it definitely was. But Cheri Schmidt is my favorite author, so of course I did.
Any additional comments?
I think everyone should at least give this book a try, especially in audio. It makes it more fun, and it really enhances the story.

Perfection!
I really enjoyed experiencing a world in which the male lead is a gentleman. It was romance and respect; not one of those stories that skips the build up and goes straight to the love. I truly appreciate learning abourbboth characters as individuals and as a couple. While the romance was not rushed, it was by no means slow either. Cheri took their love story at a perfect pace and added just the right amount of excitement! Between the excellent writing and the beyond perfect choice of a narrator, I give this book 10 out of 5 stars and will be starting the next book as soon as I finish this review!

*sigh*
If you could sum up Fateful in three words, what would they be?
Romantic
Swoonworthy
Kick a** heroine
What did you like best about this story?
Schmidt writes beautifully. She painted the scenes so I felt like I was there. The dialogue was realistic, and she did well with some of the differences between the way the Brits speak English and the way Americans do, especially with Danielle's English cousin's use of slang.
What about Tristan Hunt’s performance did you like?
*fans self*
If Tristan Hunt decides to read the phone book, I'm in! Fabulous reader. Loved his accents--he did American really well. Loved the way he handled the various scenes and gave a slight though fun twist to the voices of some of the more common characters. I hate when male readers take the female voices too high and make them almost a mockery. Tristan does the females voices very well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did a lot of housework I wasn't planning to do just so I could finish listening to it.
Any additional comments?
Now, for the story. I had a serious case of deja vu in the beginning because there are some rather pronounced similarities to the Twilight series. Bella was a klutz. Danielle got lost easily. Ethan reminded me sometimes of Edward, but with an English accent.
HOWEVER, I got over those feelings rather quickly. This book is another twist on vampires, and I found it entertaining. The story has a few exciting scenes (an especially good one toward the end), but it is very much a story about how two very different people fall in love. If you're a romance reader searching for lots of action--both dangerous and in bed--you'll want to keep that in mind. It's a clean romance, but there are plenty of swoonworthy kisses and modest touching.
I'm glad there are other books coming because we're given some hints that Danielle's dreams can sometimes be more than just dreams. And what Danielle felt prompted to paint seemed suspicious to me at one point, kind of like foreshadowing.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the other audiobook. I sure hope Tristan is narrating those too.
