About this listen

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

Absolutely Fantastic.

This is what great audio is all about. Compelling story telling, unpredictable plotting and a sense of loss when it all comes to a close. This novel is a take on the classic INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS theme. Should appeal to fans of THE TIME TRAVELLERS WIFE and THE CHILDREN OF MAN. Beware fans of the fast moving and predictable, this is neither. My top 4 favorite listens now becomes my top 5 with this entry. Cannot recommend it enough.

Well Done!

I am picky about what I read and this was very well done and very well read. I love a good book and tire of spending money on books and writers that feel that we must have profanity every couple of pages. I only remember a couple in the whole reading. In my opinion, profanity has never made a story more interesting. I highly recommend this one. Unless you like all the profanity

The best book ever

I've read this book a few times and now have it to listen too. I love it. You get a little of everything. Excitement, Romance, Everything. It gets you to think a lot about human nature. Not just bad, but good to. I love it. Keep tissue near by. :)

Love this book!

I love reading this book and it took a little while to get used to the audiobook (being my first one), but the reader does a great job with distinguishing Melanie and Wanderer's voices. And now I love the audiobook! So convenient!

I cried... I actually did.

Its a slow start... and the narrator is very monotoned (appropriately so for the material), but it took me a few listens to get into it and finish it. Once I got about 1/2 way through the book, I wanted to finish it - but it wasnt that "skip sleep so I can finish it" type craving. Even so, the book grabbed me and wrenched my heart in the end.

Beautiful book and reader!!!

Although I hanvent been a fan of audiobooks, I tried this one because I had finished the Twilight saga and couldnt find a copy of The Host to read it. I can say that my choice was great. Not only the book is very intriguing and romantic, but Kate Reading made a wonderful job in giving each character its own voice, which made me feel as I gradually was knowing each one of them.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to explore more about Stephenie Meyer and her worlds.

Loved this book

I was hook about 3 chapters in, Meyer has a way of making you want to be her characters even through the worst of times. I truely loved this book and am preparing to listen to it a second time so I can catch the things I may have missed the first time around.

Didn't want it to end

I debated about getting "The Host". I mean, it's 2 whole credits and what if? If you're in that position, don't hesitate, it's a great book. The narrator is fabulous, and the story is great. You'll love it.

Better than reading

A masterful and fascinating interpretation of work by this new "hot" author, and probably much easier to enjoy than had I read. Very well done. Well worth the listen time; gives you a good idea of the power of the current phenomenon of her work.

Sad when it was done!

I loved this book! I was sad when it was done, I wanted it to continue! It did get a little slow at times, but I loved the story and it entertained me on my long commute to and from work! I will try the "Twilight" series next!
