Publisher's summary

There is a path leading to authentic manhood, cut by men who have gone before us, sons following in the footsteps of their fathers, generation after generation. There are perils along the trail, even disasters - all the more reason to rely on the guidance of a father who has gone before.

But in an age when true fathers are in short supply, how do you find the path to manhood? How do you steer clear of the dangers?

John Eldredge calls men back to a simple and reassuring truth: God is our father. In life's trials and triumphs, God is initiating boys and men through the stages of manhood.

Through personal stories and practical guidance, Eldredge provides a map through the six stages of a man’s journey:

  • Boyhood
  • Cowboy
  • Warrior
  • Lover
  • King
  • Sage

Fathered by God maps out the path of manhood - not more rules, not another list of principles, not formulas, but a sure path men have followed for centuries before us.

Find that path and become the man God sees in you.

I Needed To Hear This

This book was recommended to me by a friend who heads up a weekly Men’s Roundtable. I am thankful. I lost my dad at age 13. This book provided me with wisdom that only a Godly father could pass on. Yes, we never lose the need to be fathered.

the warrior.

I'm going to listen to this chapter again. it's helping me a lot. There were times I was a warrior and it always been built in to me. What do we do with the guilt of attacking the wrong man or woman because of thoer lack of knowledge that I'm hypocritical about because I know my knowledge isn't that superior to thiers. I'm so mad at banks yet they seem to be running parallel in some ways to God's kingdom. but it's not God's kingdom it's an alternate lie. There is no where I can turn where I don't see lies in this world. Now I see the difference between Earth and the world. A lot of things you talk about sound like my own experiences and to this point haven't been able to implement what I've learned in my years because of a lifetime of hospitalization and deadly diagnoses and treatments of organ failure to epilepsy to strokes and brain swelling. My Father in heaven is coming into my minds eye and I see him. I should have put everything in his hands a long time ago. I've been trying to fight my way thru on my own and about 15 years ago I saw there is no way to win in this world. Everything is corrupt and driven by greed power and money. Those hungry for power are driving by sexual desire for whatever it is that turns them on. The book of Jude says a lot in two pages. Every time I build up knowledge it compells me to use God's word to fix what is wrong but then fear comes into play. I see those that are supposed to be protecting and serving and swore an Oath to God to do it, have become auditors and debt collectors of fictional debt created by laws other than God's. They make up thier own codes and rules for the system that can never be overcome. I choose to live in God's kingdom and I expect them to follow it too and stop trying to destroy me for doing it. Many entities have visited me and I'm going to keep reading the bible because it helps me make sense of what's happening to me and around me. and another thing. everything is accelerating, the world is moving faster whule at the same time getting us to violate the laws of God. They are deceiving and killing us until we comply with thier made up laws that disrespect our creator and what he has done for us. Put yourself in his position and see how it feels. Especially after you read Enoch and what the fallen have done and who they are. The words we have aren't strong enough to describe. I'm rambling now. So take this book in but read the Bible. this book inspired me to go look into scripture I hadn't read yet. It's also helping me get thru my experiences with death and the other side and angels who visit me. Bless everyone. Ross-
PS just read a little more and spiritual warfare is live ammo training for sure. ✝️

a society of uninitiated men, in need of God the Father

I enjoy the titles that are narrated by the author. John no less we strikes me as a deeply passionate person who's retained much wisdom from our father in heaven. The whole fathered by God ideas really helps me view my faith as a relationship versus a religion.

Incredible

This book did a number on me and I’ll be honest I didn’t realize I had so many things I need to stop and look at about myself. I’m going to listen to it again for more deep insight. Definitely try this book out

Life changing.

I wish more authors would narrate their own books. This book is so much more powerful because John Eldridge reads it with the tone he wrote it in! That makes such a big difference.

Production notes aside, this book has literally been life changing for me. I didn’t realize the stages of manhood that I was never initiated in, and that many of my life’s trials were God my Father’s sovereign work in my life to initiate me into a new stage of manhood! Now I want to pass those trials instead of side-step them. Truth be told I’m in the middle of a heavy one right now, and I’m about to listen to this again with the workbook. I can not recommend it enough.
