About this listen
Darcy had never known such a woman, one who could rush into an inferno and emerge as bold and brilliant as burnished brass, bright as any mirror.
Fitzwilliam Darcy had planned to leave Netherfield Park and all thoughts of the enchanting Miss Elizabeth Bennet behind him - until one night when he saw smoke rising from Longbourn and realized she was in peril.
Elizabeth Bennet found Mr. Darcy arrogant and insufferable right up until he became her hero, pulling her and her sister from the fire that devastated their home and could have claimed both of their lives. Seeing how he put his own life at risk to pull her from the fire, how could she help but change her opinion of him?
Thrown together again in the refuge offered at Netherfield, Darcy and Elizabeth’s unexpected bond gains strength. But disapproval, debts, and doubts all arise when the costs in time and expense involved in rebuilding Longbourn threaten to widen the gulf standing between Elizabeth and Darcy in the eyes of society. Amidst these perplexities of destruction and decorum, can love’s courage overcome calamity?

Story
Elizabeth Bennet dreads encountering Mr. Darcy when she visits Pemberley, for surely, after she spurned his offer of marriage, he must despise her. Yet they do meet, and to her astonishment, he holds no resentment towards her. Regrettably, someone else does. Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, her reintroduction to the master of Pemberley is far from universally welcomed. There are others for whom prejudice is stirred up by the familiarity between Miss Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Story
“Mr Darcy, I am eager to hear your explanation for the fact that quite a few people believe we are engaged.” It starts with a bit of well-meant advice. Colonel Fitzwilliam suggests to his cousin Darcy that, before he proposes to Elizabeth Bennet in Kent, perhaps he ought to discuss his plans with their families first. What neither man could have predicted however was that Lord Matlock would write the news to his sister, or that Viscount Saye would overhear and tell his friends, or that his friends might slip a little and let their friends know as well.

Story
One of the turning points in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is Miss Elizabeth Bennet's passionate refusal and denunciation of the equally passionate but infinitely more repressed Fitzwilliam Darcy. However, unforeseen events can lead to the most unexpected consequences. During a visit with her friend, Charlotte Collins, at Hunsford, Elizabeth falls prey to illness for almost the first time in her life just as Mr. Darcy comes to call. Befuddled by her illness, she misinterprets his proposal of marriage, and a simple nod of acknowledgment is mistaken for acceptance.

I enjoyed the storyline very much. Caress is a talented writer. Stevie Zimmerman never disappoints in her narration. I admit that determines many of the purchases I make. There are some editing issues that need to be addressed in this recording. Repeats and cuts that must have been overlooked.

Light on Angst with a great performance by Ms. Zimmerman. Enjoyed the story, although there were a couple of places that the editing was noticeably bad (a sentence or two cut off abruptly) - not so bad to ruin the experience, but irksome all the same.

Well done!
Read a draft of this online several years ago & wondered how the author would resolve such a clever vagary. This audiobook is a lovely answer!
I especially appreciate that characters remain true to themselves as they face the extremis of the addition of a horrid fire. The author was particularly insightful as she imagined Elizabeth heroically struggling to maintain & sustain her family as well as Mr. Bennet attempting to face a world at Longbourn without a library that provided kindling for the blaze.
Love the writing, ODC’s snappy dialogues, Georgiana here & a few new minor characters plus our narrator Never disappoints! A buy

Decent variation
There were many aspects of the story which I appreciated. However, it did not seem as unique as variations go. Once you get past the fire itself, it seems a bit less unique and more of a rehash of canon. I did enjoy the story.

Wonderful
I’ve listened to this one again and again as it is a favorite.
The story we know from Jane Austen takes a sharp turn when disaster strikes at Longbourne early in the story.
What evolves as a result is a story with warmth, heart and strength as the characters unveil. The younger Bennett girls are just as silly, but more “fleshed out”. Lizzie shows just how strong she truly is and Darcy quickly sheds his outer shell to, literally, ride to the rescue. Of course, he does eventually retreat as he battles his desires against expectations, but that is what makes this JAFF after all.
There are a couple of new players that are wonderful additions as well.
Stevie Zimmerman, what can I say! As usual, she provides a reading that brings each character to life. She, honestly, has begun to ruin JAFF audiobooks for me as I hear her voices for the main characters now when I actually READ a book🤣. Her talent is unparalleled when it comes to providing each character their own distinct voice and demeanor. I find myself looking for her voice when searching for new stories. True Fan Girl!
