About this listen

A comprehensive examination of the many ways the spirit world affects the material plane and our minds. It:

  • Provides a detailed guide to the afterlife and its inhabitants
  • Reveals the spirit influence behind many mental disorders as well as psi abilities and creative genius
  • Includes checklists of symptoms of spirit “overshadowing”, methods from the world’s top exorcists, and instructions on how to free unwanted spirits from the material plane

We are spirits housed in a body, and just as houses can be haunted, so can people. When the living succumb to dissociative states of consciousness, they become a magnet for lost but clinging spirits. Known as jinn, dybbuk, daemon, wuqabi, or simply the undead, they hover unseen on the earth plane, ready to inhabit the most suitable body available.

Documenting the life of wandering spirits and their impact on vulnerable human targets, Susan Martinez offers a radical departure from the standard psychological explanations for a host of pathological behaviors - including multiple personality, autism, epilepsy, migraines, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, PTSD, self-destructive urges, and strange outbursts - and reveals that hallucinations are often true impressions of spirit input. Martinez explains how mental health comes down to the delicate balance between self-control and spirit control. When trauma triggers an escape response, the soul takes flight, leaving the mind susceptible to possession by discarnate entities. However, the spirit world can also bestow gifts upon those whose psyches are open, such as in the case of mediums, shamans, people who communicate with angels, and many of the world’s creative geniuses.

Martinez presents “overshadowing” by spirits as a universal, cross-cultural phenomenon, documenting modern and traditional accounts as well as corroborating indigenous beliefs. She examines soul decay, soul travel both before and after death, and how knowledge of the spirit world can offer positive treatments for disorders like schizophrenia and autism. Providing a detailed guide to the spirit world and its inhabitants, the author offers checklists of symptoms of “overshadowing”, methods from the world’s top exorcists, and instructions on how to free spirits so they can continue their journey into the beyond - all the tools necessary to forearm us against soul snatchers and other enemies of the light.

Please, lose the incessant "quote... unquotes"

This ebook could've been at least two (2) hours shorter had the approximately 8,000 "quote... unquote" parts been left out.
The narrator has a voice that I'd listen to for hours on end, but a very good reading has been completely undone by punctuation marks that have no business being read aloud ad nauseum.
Had I not been so interested in the content; I'd have stopped and deleted it long before she got to the five (5) minute mark.

Should've been entitled: QUOTE Field Guide to the Spirit World UNQUOTE.
If you value your sanity, buy and read the this book yourself.
CRINGE-WORTHY.

Quote unquote... Quote unquote... Quote unquote

I lost track at 500 Quote unquotes…. It was hard to follow the narration because there were so blasted many quote unquotes that it was distracting. Do you really need to use verbal quotation marks when it is obvious you are quoting someone?

Quote OAHSPE is my Scripture Unquote

As noted in other reviews, the repeated “quote-unquote” in the narration is quite jarring...especially when more and more of those quoted passages are drawn uncritically from a channelled 19th century text as proof of the author’s assertions. I don’t mind opinionated writing, which this is, and I’m interested in spiritualism as a movement, and its assorted channelled materials, and I’m personally disposed to a spirit-thronged cosmos. But I don’t like being sold a book that fails to disclose upfront that it’s skirting dangerously close to being a piece of apologetics for faithists.

Worst Book I've gotten on audible lately.

The narration on this book is garbage "Quote/End Quote" all the way through this thing. I read all sorts of books on the metaphysical and this is the worst, most disappointing one I can remember in recent times. I spent $15 on this and I want my money back. I definitely have buyers remorse on this title!! Save yourself the money - get something else.

Her theories on reincarnation are totally ridiculous!!

Her chapter on reincarnation is totally ridiculous and that alone made me scrap the book, there are literally thousands and thousands of case studies on this subject that prove otherwise that don’t involve egomaniac reasons for reincarnation theories. Ian Stevensons book, 20 cases of reincarnation is one of many books on this.
I did like her comparisons of serial killers similarities.
Other than that this is total fiction.

Angry Rant

The narration was spoiled by repetitions of quote/unquote, reflecting the author’s liberal use of quoting others a habit of putting her own words in quotes. The author also abbreviates many phrases which is just annoying, for example, SciMat for scientific materialism. This is no field guide. It’s an angry rant, read by the narrator (correctly but still unpleasant) to express that anger, full of disdainful fuming about words like “disorder” and “energy.” Whatever ails you - from PTSD to serial murder - blame a spirit.

Stellar! Very well researched and equally well...

Stellar! Very well researched and equally well presented.

I've thoroughly studied this field since childhood and 50+ years later I can certainly agree with the vast majority of this book w/o hesitation.

The order of topics is perfect for my style of learning and cleanly follows her presentation process.

Personal opinion....
I think it you thoroughly study John A Keel's copious so-called alien and UFO data, look very seriously at the history and facts of world religions (especially the Abrahamic and Hindu strain), and this book, you will pretty much have a grip on what is going on to the inhabitants of this planet.

VERY highly recommended!
