About this listen

Today, practicing shamanism doesn't mean you have to live in a rain forest or a desert. Thanks to a modern renaissance of shamanic spirituality, practitioners from all walks of life now use powerful indigenous techniques for healing, insight, and spiritual growth. With Awakening to the Spirit World, teachers Sandra Ingerman and Hank Wesselman bring together a circle of renowned Western shamanic elders - Tom Cowan, Carol Proudfoot-Edgar, Jose Stevens, and Alberto Villoldo - to present a comprehensive manual for making these practices accessible and available in our daily lives, including:

  • How the original practice of shamanism shaped the world's spiritual traditions and why it is still relevant today.
  • The art of the shamanic journey-a time-tested meditative method for experiencing important spiritual lessons and truths.
  • Guidance for avoiding common pitfalls of shamanic practice.
  • Instruction for working with your dreams, connecting to your spirit guides, and healing yourself and your environment

Best Book on Shamanism

i enjoyed the book and felt like it was the most practical, simple and honest book on shamanism so far that I have read. Good narrator. A sober and hopeful book from people with tons of knowledge and experience. I recommend this to anyone who is interested and wants to take a step forward.

Wisdom of the ancients

Heartfelt overview of this ancient practice and how we incorporate these techniques into our daily lives. Accessing the unconscious with methods that are doable (journeying) and SO inspiring for art making. Easy to understand and filled with history, examples, exercises and knowledge to use in our daily lives. It takes my meditation practice to a new level. Recommended to me by my art mentor.

A wonderful introduction!

This book, while mostly an intellectual look into Shamanism, will still give the reader a great introduction to the many facets of a worldview that is both ecumenical and empowering for life in the 21st century. There are plenty of gems throughout that are thought provoking and made me reflect and connect with my deeper spiritual notions of my life and living.

Outstanding

A fascinating in-depth discovery of the Shamanic culture, practice of shamanism, how-to's demonstrations, guided journeying, etc. I was looking for a culture and practice far removed from Western medicine, therapy, food, history, pain relief, deep meditation and this book was it! Have reread twice on Audible.

author vs narrator

I love Sandra Ingerman! I've read many of her books and she is a true asset to the shamanic community. However, I couldn't finish the audiobook because of the narrator. She had a mumbled whispery tone that may be good for romance novels but definitely not a fit for this type of content. I will be buying the book to read on my own instead.
