About this listen

The fifth volume in Piper's acclaimed The Swans Are Not Silent series illustrates powerful and enduring lessons through the missional sufferings of Tyndale, Judson, and Paton.

Jesus' words in John 12 are sobering: unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it will bear little fruit. The history of Christianity's expansion proves that God's strategy for reaching unreached peoples with the gospel includes the sufferings of his frontline heralds - the missionaries who willingly die a thousand daily deaths to advance God's kingdom.

Pastor John Piper's latest addition to The Swans Are Not Silent series focuses on this flesh-and-blood reality in the lives of William Tyndale, Adoniram Judson, and John Paton. The price they paid to translate the Word of God, to pave the way for missionary mobilization around the world, and to lead the hostile to Christ was great. Yet their stories show in triplicate how the gospel advances not only through the faithful proclamation of the truth but through representing the afflictions of Christ in our sufferings.

The ultimate cost of following Christ.

Thought provoking messages. Narrator very easy to listen to. Only a couple hours long.

Definitely the best Christian series of books I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to listen to.

This is probably the best Christian series of books I have listened to. I really like how I am challenged in my life walk with God and it has really inspired me in my daily disciplines - disciplines that I believe and trust will become firm foundations in my faith, hope and love for our Lord and Savior.

Thank you to both the author and narrator for these books.

A must read book for aspiring missionaries.

If you’re sensing the Lord’s pull on your heart to give your life in a foreign land for the cause of Christ, this is a must read. I highly recommend it, and if that’s your desire then you won’t regret it! Take up and read, take up and read! It’s also just a solid book on suffering for all Christians as well!

A Heart wrenching and heroic story of Gods work in 3 Martyrs

This book reviews the courage, faith, and impact of the lives of 3 men who dedicated their lives to teaching The Gospel. They risked everything they had and persevered through sickness, loss of love ones, as they continued the path that God called them too. John Piper lays out this book in a way that inspires and I highly suggest reading it whether you are a believer in Christ or not. At the very least you will see a very interesting bit of history that has had a huge impact at the world.

Another great book in the series

I really, really like the series by John Piper, "The swans are not silent", and this book of that series is particularly good in my view. I like the length of it, the pace of the stories and the narration.
The stories are almost unbelievable, but you know they are painfully true. I've examined my life after listening to 3 of the series and wonder if I too have the courage of the great men of the Christian faith. Men and women who, by most account don't get enough recognition.

get all these thumb-nail biographies

The particular sets of three (3) biographies that deal with suffering, endurance and afflictions ( at least 3 volumes in "the swans deal with these issues) have had a long lasting impact on me.
I don't know much about the author (Mr. Piper) and his personal beliefs/convictions, however, I learn a great deal about the persons and struggles of those he writes about.
5 star all around audio productions. I go to them over and over.
