About this listen

Faye Longchamp is overjoyed to be paid to do archaeological work she would have done anyway - excavating a site that was once her family's. But that joy ends abruptly when intruders break into a dear friend's house and leave him dead among the scattered remains of Faye's artifacts.

There seems to be no motive at all for the vicious crime...unless the thieves were aware of the fabulous emerald he had been holding minutes before his death. But the open wall safe is untouched, and choice artifacts are still in their cases. Only Faye's field notes are missing.

Faye seeks out the story behind the mysterious emerald. How was her fieldwork connected to her friend's death? The key to all her questions must be buried in the field notes now held by the killers. Now it is only a matter of time before they come for Faye.

Certain words were mispronounced. There are no good excuses anymore for that with internet pronunciations easily available. Even names can be looked up. The name Viola pronounced vi (long I) o (long o) la. The shortened Vi then is pronounced with a long I. I had an aunt named Vi who would turn over in her grave with how her name was mispronounced.

Pronunciation of words.

I loved the previous books; so much so that I emailed the author and told her so, but I am very disappointed with this one. The voices have changed.. they dont sound like my old friends I grew to know and love. I couldn't hardly put them the previous books down , now I find it a chore to try to finish this one. I'm thinking about returning it and looking for another series...very sad😢

too different from before

I love the history and the people in these novels. The romance adds another touch of spice. I just have to keep listening all day. Definitely my favourite mystery series this year.

Another nail biting story

Was filling in a gap in the Series about Faye Long Champ. Born on a Florida Island, an Archaeologist with roots back to preCival War and mixed ancestry. It starts with Artifacts. Each is stand-alone but the 13 novels follow her life, friends, families and adventures. There may still be one or two to read. Characters are great and the stories shadow actual real life events.

The storyline is well woven. I enjoy the characters and getting to know them more with each book.

Another great story

I love how all the clues are intertwined into the story long before you need to know them. Then one by one they come to light so naturally. Anna Evans has a true gift of plot and characterization along with her endless treasury of historical knowledge.

Outstanding once again.

I really enjoyed listening to this book and feel like I probably learned a few things along the way. I thought the narrator's voice was just right for the story. I think the book could have done without the last three words, but that's probably more of a personal preference. I'm sure others wouldn't think the book complete without them.

Really enjoyed

These are such good mysteries, suspenseful and twisted. The history holds my attention and the characters are first rate!

Archeological Mystery

It’s peculiar that the main character’s voice has been drastically changed in the fourth book of the series though it’s the same narrator. The voicing of character Faye was changed from an accent free high version of narrator’s apparent normal voice to an exaggerated ‘thick southern accent’ as Faye herself now described her accent. I miss the original voice cuz the new version almost seems like a parody and distracts from the story. The sheriff also seems to now have a folksy southern accent. Anyway, although the story is implausible in many respects, it’s still an entertaining tale.
