About this listen

A Carlisle Deputies Novel

Undercover sheriff’s deputy Evan Whittaker is close to infiltrating a vicious local gang. He just needs to find an opening. Instead, he finds Wes Douglas, a web designer who is raising his irresponsible brother’s son. Wes agrees to help with a stakeout, but he pays the price when his home is destroyed in a shootout.

Evan’s always been a loner, but when he invites Wes into his home, living together feels right, and the two men only grow closer as they adapt to each other’s lives and rhythms. A future as a family looks brighter by the day, but all of that could collapse when Wes’s brother—and his connection to the drug dealers—crashes into the life they’re carefully building.

Good story but…

It was a good story, but I almost didn’t know that. The middle was quite boring to me. The MCs seemed more evenly matched than in a typical Andrew Grey story meaning one wasn’t constantly preaching to the other.

Miller Stevens did a better job narrating than in book 4 of the series.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: Easy pace, likeable characters, interesting plot
I enjoy this series - I like the "realness" Andrew Grey writes and that the Law Enforcement guys are all good guys doing the right thing.
I liked Wes character, that he stepped up and took responsibility for his brothers baby and I'm happy things worked out for him in the end.

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Miller Stephen's performance and he improves with each book he narrates. I like the clear difference between Evan's voice and the general dialogue, but I would have liked a bit more of a difference between Wes's voice and the general dialogue. Overall though, he's done a reasonable job of the characters giving them each their own voice, he narrates at a good pace, has good timing, inflections and intonations and brings life and emotion to the story. That's more than I can do myself and enough to keep me happy. 😊
