About this listen

Aggie Malone is a dedicated young cop who has spent her entire life just looking for a place to call home. She never thought she'd find it in a quaint Florida village called Dogleg Island, where almost nothing ever happens.

Deputy Ryan Grady is an easygoing playboy who carries a surf board in the trunk of his patrol car and lives in the same rambling beach cottage his grandfather built 70 years ago. He grew up on Dogleg Island and can't imagine ever living anywhere else. It's always been the most peaceful place he has ever known.

Flash is a black and white, blue eyed border collie with amazing powers of perception, recollection, and deduction. He was born to be nothing more than a pampered family pet, however, and his skills might never have been uncovered.

A single night of blood and terror changed the lives of these three forever, and forged a bond between them that nothing will ever break. While each of them struggles to deal with the scars left by that night, they must also bring a killer to justice - a killer who is also stalking them. And only Flash knows who it is.

Well written and entertaining

I especially liked the amount of information about dogs included. I plan on listening to her other books.

I hope that she continues the series

Great book, Interesting information about Border Collies. like the location and the characters. The idea of having a bullet left in your brain is interesting and makes the story unusual.

Performance

I’ve never written a review because I’m just not very picky so this will be my first. Put short and not so sweet, that is the worst “performance “ I’ve ever listened. The whole story was read in a boring monotone. The description of a shooting was in the same tone as someone sleeping, no change in inflection at all. HOPE I never listen to that person again.

almost enjoyable

I believe it was a good story. Narrator did nothing for the story. While she had excellent diction her monotone was exceedingly frustrating. I would love to hear her again if she would put some emotion into the reading!!

So glad there's another series by this author

I'm a fan of the Raine Stockton series and am thrilled to start this other dog mystery series by the same author, Donna Ball. Just the right balance of action and suspense. Nice character development. And even some romance. The dog Flash's perspective adds interesting cross species dimension to the story.

Monotone Reader Great Story

This was a really good, engaging story. It is well-written, suspenseful without causing extreme blood pressure hike. The reader, however, was completely devoid of inflection or emotion - almost like someone asked her to see how long she could read in monotone. I am now going on the hunt for more books by this author, not the reader. Feel bad saying it

Great story for Dog lovers!

This a great first entry in a series with a border collie who is smarter than the humans. Some dog mysteries are a bit on the silly side, but this is a solid detective story with the added bonus of the dog Flash as a main character. I agree with other reviewers who are critical of the narrator - her voice is much too deadpan in situations where that's not appropriate. But the narrator doesn't spoil the story overall. I'm buying the next book in the series!

Disappointing Narrator

What did you like best about Flash? What did you like least?

The story is excellent. The reader is boring. It could have been a very exciting listen but the narrator has a very monotonous delivery.

What did you like best about this story?

I truly liked the snippets from the dog's perspective.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her monotonous and unemotional delivery make what could have been a good listen into a boring "Let's just get this overwith" book. I was extremely disappointed.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes.

Entertaining

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The plot was good, the description of a Florida hurricane was correct, the connection between the heroine and her dog was spot on. I liked the narration
