Publisher's summary

This is the audiobook listenershave been waiting for...

Dogleg Island Police Chief Aggie Malone has spent years searching for the identity of her birth father. Now, thanks to a home DNA test, she has a lead...but it’s taking her in a direction she never could have imagined, and desperately does not want to go. Because the evidence suggests that Aggie could be the daughter of the infamous Angelo, head of the deadly Ghost Syndicate crime empire.

Matters become more complicated when Aggie’s canine partner, Flash, discovers an abandoned child on the beach. The little girl can tell them nothing about how she got there, but she is clutching a Santa Muerte statuette - a symbol of protection in Hispanic culture, but also the notorious insignia for a drug cartel. Aggie’s husband, Deputy Sheriff Ryan Grady, becomes involved when the case intersects with his own investigation into the Ghost Syndicate, leading them all down a dark path fill with treachery and deceit in which no one is above suspicion.

Grady unearths a secret organization with sinister connections to the past that may provide the key to bringing down the Ghost Syndicate. Aggie comes closer to discovering Angelo’s true identity and, perhaps, the truth about her own parentage. But even as the final pieces of the puzzle fall into place, a plan for revenge that has been decades in the making is unfolding around them. Unless Aggie, Grady, and Flash can stop it they risk losing everything they love...even Dogleg Island itself.

Don’t miss this shocking conclusion to the Angel Trilogy!

Book lady

I enjoyed this series because I loved the characters and the town. Small town drama always much more interesting as the good and bad in each person can be seen and sometimes understood.

Flash needs one more story

How lovely to attribute to Flash the understanding that dying in this life might mean a trip to the sky and having another life begin. Excellent resolution of an intricate plot except 5 books ended on a sad note with a glimmer of hope. Aggie deserves more life and happy experiences then she and Ryan can move to Venezuela, too. Gabby needs to grow a little bit older. Loraine could have a bit of a resolution: another remission or death. Donna Postel is a major reason that I stayed with the Raine Stockton series. Her voice as Raine is a taffy pull where the sweet stays with you after all of the bits of taffy have been swallowed. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the story got a bit too intricate even though it was resolved. Don't you just hate it when the bad guy is attractive, intelligent, a true sociopath and you wouldn't mind him hanging around if the bad could stay in his past.

Fifth Book in Fantastic Series

Florida's Dogleg Island has a unique Chief of Police with an intelligent Boarder Collie Dog. This is the culmination of a huge investigation of a crime syndicate that has settled on this island. The characters have become like family. Their relationships are endearing. I have read the series several times because it is just that good.

Dogleg Island

Glad I don’t live there. Too much chaos to invest in property. Herding breeds are something else!

Another Fantastic Addition to the Series!

I LOVE this series! The dog, the human characters, the sense of place, the action scenes, the real emotion. This is a great series for dog lovers, but also just a great series. My only regret is now I have a long wait until the next book comes out!

I highly recommend both this series and the author’s Raine Stockton books.

Intense

At one point I got a little frustrated because there seemed to be a lot of characters to keep track of but Flash and I saw the truth before Aggie did. Or and least part of it. The story begins as a straight out police procedural but as characters are fleshed out the urgency builds. Ball’s people are real with virtues and flaws and real feelings that play as much a part as the details of the mystery. I won’t say more but encourage you to read this expertly woven story. (It’s a shame Flash can’t talk).
