About this listen

Book One in the Jack Of All series!

In a world ravaged by the devastating arrival of the squid, status and age no longer matter. Everyone fought, and the war was still lost.

Burke, a veteran of the squid invasion, is facing a new enemy: age. All he wants is to get through the remainder of his days without any trouble, but the world is unforgiving and peace is a distant memory.

Arvin, Burke's neighbor and friend, is losing himself. Once a powerful wizard, he has become a danger to those he cares about most.

Charlie, a girl born after the squid invasion, knows only loss and fear. Her mother and best friend were killed, and every time the lights go out, she hopes she's not next.

But hope is as dead as her mother.

The squid are evolving. Where light was once a death sentence, it now serves as a mere obstacle in their relentless pursuit of food and corpses.

The author is the voice actor!

I’m a dyslexic truck driver who solely listens to audio books. I really appreciate when the author does the reading. His voices are well balanced and make you believe that they are different people. Excited to see where he takes the story.

Hmmm

When I saw this book I was expecting something else. I for some reason was thinking this is a dark YA. But anyway, this story had a couple of laugh and sad moments.
But the one major thing is how are humans losing?! For real tho, it felt like the squids were really dumb, dumber than they should be. But I thought maybe due to numbers maybe that’s why. But that doesn’t seem right either since any light source kills them. So I’m just left wondering how?
I do like Helmet, he’s definitely someone I enjoy through the story. Getting the alien perspective was cool and how they interacted with the human body was cool. Now if there more of HIM then I can see humanity loosing the war.
Now how it ended, I’m confused on what will happen. It seems a very nice fitted end. But there is a squeal and I guess my question is will it take place on Flipside?

Great story and performance

It is not often the narrator is the author, and I sometimes wonder if the feelings are being conveyed correctly or if names are pronounced correctly. Mr. Llewtnac has done an excellent job as narrator and author. The world he has created is fascinating, and the characters are brilliantly written. The characters are really brought to life with his amazing performance as narrator. Overall, a great concept, a great story, and a great narrator.

fantastic book

Great story and characters. The worldbuilding was immersive, the relationships between characters were amazing, kept me on the edge of my seat. On top of it all, amazing narration.

An Amazing Horror

Not only is the author an amazing story writer, but also an amazing storyteller. You could listen to him read the phonebook. The story was fun, tragic, and brilliant. If you want a twist on classic horror, this is a great option.

Different read, but good

It took me a minute to get into the story because of the character development at the beginning, but that’s just me. As a reader it always takes me forever to get past it. However, once the story pushes you forward it was so good I made it a point to finish it in a day! I’m not one to care about the emotions for the bad guy, but I can see why it was necessary. The last chapters has kept my attention to want to know what happens next! Can’t wait for the next book.

Very good audio and voices for the different characters!

Loved it!

I loved it! The author is both an amazing author and narrator! It's one of those stories where if you told me the end at the beginning I would have thought you were crazy but the progress to get there feels so natural by the time we get there it totally feels right. There is significantly more language in the book than I would like and at the very beginning I had some trouble with keeping track of the changing povs but once I had a little time to get to know the characters it wasn't a problem. All and all great book so excited for the sequel!
